I'm not too good at this but, if you ask nicely, I'm sure Anzac is more than willing to explain. I know it's something about tramlines, zone 14 and player intelligence. Not sure if that is in the correct order though!

If some new signing scored 9 in 11 people would be spaffing themselves. Giroud's done well when fit this season. Hope he can get to 15 league goals.

Giroud isn't the very best of strikers, but even the best don't usually convert three good chances into three goals.

He scored 1 from the only shot on target in 6 today.
That's 12 shots inside the area in his last 2 games inside a week, with only 1 on target and 1 goal.
Giroud is a protected species and deserved to be dropped as much as BFG, just that AW needs Giroud so as to persist with the tiki-taka by numbers in the final 3rd.

He's had 2 bad games, and he got a possibly game winning goal in one of them. When your alternatives are Welbeck and Akpom, it's best to stick with Giroud.

Today was a bad game at best in front of goal, v Monaco was a shocker.

TBH I'd rather try another system & perhaps use more than 1 ST.
I don't see the point in trying to persist with a system (that ultimately is not good enough), simply because that system best suits our primary CF who is not a reliable goal scorer, and more so when it means we are effectively playing without a primary goal scoring role.

But Anzac our whole system is set up for tricky attacking midfielders to try to play through the crowded middle, Giroud is our only threat from set pieces crosses etc where most goals come from in the real world of the PL.

Don't recall this being an issue during The Highbury Years with Anelka, TH, Greedy, RVP etc - guess it shows how far we're regressed in our 'quality'.

IIRC AW said in 08/09 that even the most basic goal scorer would score well with the number of quality chances we create.

What worse is that when Welbeck plays forward he doesn't have the balls to take on chances so he avoids criticism from people who's analytical skills go as far as "he missed shot, that bad".

Welbeck's gone backwards since he arrived, figuratively speaking.

Giroud did what he needed to do yesterday, still think he needs to stop dwelling on his misses.
His shoulders drop, his disappointment is all to visible, he loses valuable seconds post shot when he should be on his toes looking for a rebound or to regain possession.

I agree with that but I don't think its because he's dwelling on the miss, I think its because he just loves making a big deal of things. His ridiculously OTT gallic gesturing after misses, decisions, etc is just part of his nature. I don't think its a sign of a damaged mentality. I do think its why so many people hate him.
