He's arguably not even the best technician on the pitch. Santi is as good as it gets.

Ozil was immense in the second half yesterday. Looks like seeing Cazorla dictating the game has spurred him on. Some of his dribbling was sensational.

Cazorla can use both feet equally well, and his control in tight spaces is extraordinary. Ozil is a more effective dribbler, though, as he has more pace and power. That's just my opinion, as both are no doubt top class technicians. Claiming one is clearly better than the other is just fanboyism, though. Just saying.

I'm not talking about moving the ball close to your ankles or the ability to dribble. Özil can cope in zero space under pressure. Cazorla can't. That makes him the better technician to me. It's why he unclogs defences while Cazorla is more comfortable dictating play deeper in the field.

Not in the space between midfield and forwards. That's where he got found out repeatedly in Europe and against the top teams in the league, which is why Wenger played him on the flank for five months before going into the market for a £42 million playmaker the following summer. It has nothing to do with Cazorla's ability to dribble, because technique is not just about manipulating the ball.

Di Maria is another technically excellent player who's not half as good when you put him in that space, which is what United have realised lately when van Gaal has experimented with him as a second striker.

He is a fine dribbler but he always seem to struggle against pressing throughout his career. Off the top of my head, I remember him being totally anonymous against CSKA in the final, struggled against Dortmund and Liverpool albeit all for different clubs. But another reason for him being dispossessed easily might be his weak physique.

In terms of technical ability, Wilshere has gotta be up there.

Yeah, Jack is a walking wonder. He has this weird refusal towards using his right foot, but technically he's of the highest cut. I've always liked him closer to goal for this reason. There are so very few players who can do what he does in the most congested area of the pitch.

On the other hand it's also why I think Jack is useful deeper in games like the one at WHL recently. He's better than anyone at using the pressure from the opponents against them. See Barcelona a few years back.

technical ability covers a lot - remember Wright saying ages ago that he used to judge based on how hard players could kick the ball with minimal backlift. I'm a stickler of the first touch, and of the current squad Wilshere, Cazorla or Ozil never miss them. What sets Ozil apart is the use of the ball - decision making and timing is always spot on.

I agree. This was exactly the type of game his style would have suited as the one twos would have cracked their tight pressing and his straight dribbling would have drawn fouls which would ease pressure as you said.

Mesut is actually quite one footed too but it doesn't stop him

I've not seen a player bring others in to play as much as Mesut does

Like Klaus says higher up the pitch pressing is usually a lot more aggressive and efficient and he hasn't excelled there. I've been abroad the last week so didn't see the Spurs match but from my friend told me their pressure and aggression kept him and others out of the game.

The problem isn't Ozil or Ramsey, the problem is we don't have a top class DM in the squad. In that game you mention we played with Flamini in the middle and Koscielny went off injured in the first half. I'd love to see the stats on when we played Arteta, Ramsey, Ozil in the middle, I doubt we lost many games with that trio last season.

He was kept quiet. I think games where Özil has been kept quiet also exist. Cazorla as our PotY and one of the best in the league in his first season for us. I do agree that Özil is a better AM, but that's because of his vision and ability to put players through, not because he's a better technician.

Apart from Cazorla, i'm struggling to think of any one of our players who use both feet equally. Ramsey, probably, but even he manipulates the ball to his right foot if given the chance. Technically Diaby counts as he can't use either and maybe those whose dominant foot is so rubbish it makes no difference if they use the swinger.
