Mesut coming out of his shell?

Ozil was decent last night, and since his return from injury has generally been one of our best players, especially as Cazorla has gone off the boil a little bit. And I say that as someone who is generally fairly critical of him (still think he has some mental/attitude problems in how he approaches the game mind you)

That being said, still find it mind-boggling that posters on this forum can still be found saying things like "Best no.10 in the world" and such. Wouldn't a find a non-Gooner in the whole world who would agree with that

That's not true, though, is it? Real Madrid weren't unstoppable with him in his best position and surrounded by world class players. Neither were Germany. Fabregas is also more creative than him in the final third.

Welbeck is not good enough, either.

I would build a much more physical side and keep Ozil. If, for example, Wenger was able to go out and get Pogba and Schniederlin, I would keep Ozil at 10 and have them behind. I've been crying out for physical players for the longest time. Those two and Cavani up top with Ozil and Sanchez in behind with A.N Other gives us the kind of athleticism we've been missing since Invincibles.

Cannot tell you how much I hate this stat. Utterly meaningless. Beckham used to walk around in circles and have one of the highest distances covered.

You don't need a stat to tell you that Ozil runs a lot. Just watch him play and you'll see that he attacks every bit of space he can. He's not one of those static playmakers.

Beckham used to work his bollocks off. Incredibly hardworking player on the pitch (and off the pitch by all accounts).

Not that I'm arguing in favour of that stat in general. Ozil was on the periphery, as he often is. He was one of 11 bad performers on the pitch yesterday. Trying to figure out whether he was better or worse the average 4/10 performance isn't that interesting.

ozil is constantly on the move off the ball. i have one mate who goes to home games and can attest to how much he moves to make himself available. but then, that's his job as a dedicated AM.

Ozil will never single handily win games. Sanchez has proved that he can.

Ozil is not an Arsenal player, either he's wasted in Wenger's system or he's not moulded for premier league football. I can't think of another top English team where he'd slip in and make a positive impact. Chelsea don't need him that's for sure.

What ever way your view ls are on him, 42 million could have been spent more efficiently for the benefit of the team.

Ozil was a disgrace on wed and at times is a borderline fraud. Just as I was slowly warming to him he produced one of the most feeble displays you will see.

He did the exact same thing a year ago v Bayern at home.

Bloke is not cut out for the big games.

Has the title of being a 42m player but can't deal with the responsibility or expectations .

If I saw him in the street I would not shake his hand.

Özil didn't stop trying v Monaco. He didn't have a good game, far from it, but he kept getting himself into pockets of space, he kept wanting the ball, he kept running trying to put pressure from the front.
