Yep. No doubt he has been forced to make some deals in order to get the support of some in the right faction and I would expect that to influence his approach considerably until at least the election. If he wins that by a decent enough margin then we may see a somewhat different approach in his next term.

You could say a lot of nasty stuff about him, but I personally doubt he'll do a good job of representing ordinary people. He hasn't shared their experience of life in many, many decades.

Likewise his grasp of the issues—he's articulate and knowledgeable but I've seen very little to suggest he's capable of delivering good results.

He's the type of operator who's eager to compromise and play the game in the name of false pragmatism, which has already left us with no ETS and seriously broken telecoms infrastructure. Vision deficit.

I don't rate organised religion and Islam is by far the worst of the lot. A few blokes here claimed 'bag snatch' in jest but that was a guy trying to help these animals, only to be mobbed and have everything pulled from him in an aggressive fashion. 'Refugees' in Macedonia refused help from the red cross because of the cross insignia on their equipment, all the while shouting pro-Islamic statements at the people trying to help them. There are a ton of things that are wrong about all of this that are easy to see - if people are prepared to look past the sop story painted by the media.

Again, why aren't the gulf countries like Saudi Arabia taking these people in? Wouldn't that make more sense?

Just remember, we are talking about belief systems here, nothing about race at all.

I know it's not considered newsworthy but, surely, you must be aware they are engaged in a full scale war with the Houthi rebels in San'a. This wasn't even a consideration in my reply as anyone living there must endure one of the most repressive regimes on earth and it's even worse for foreigners who are employed like slaves with their passports confiscated. A Saudi national can get you thrown in jail indefinitely by accusing you of looking at his wife. The only way you can be released is to either be a westerner or have him pardon you.
Also their weather is extremely shit and i could go on all day listing more and more reasons as to why they don't have a refugee problem. Also the refugees are not interested in the unknown oasis of tolerance that is Macedonia. They all want to go to Germany.

You won't see refugee figures for Saudi - they don't give them out, they didn't sign the convention. They've received between 100k - 500k Syrian 'migrants' instead. Similar situation for Kuwait.

The refugees are heading for Germany because

Turkey already has too many.
many East European states other than Germany may not always be in the best shape economically to sustain them, and many are also full of racist xenophobic bigots.
Germany has made plenty of friendly overtures to refugees and the word will have been passed on.

There's a lot of criticism about Muslim states not receiving their fellow Muslim refugees, but these reports forget that:

Jordan and Iraq are Muslim states
Turkey is ruled by an Islamist party
Israel 😆 oh dear Israel
Plenty of Christians among those Syrian refugees too

Among the countries that have the most refugees are Turkey and Lebanon, countries that aren't exactly rich, and before the war in Syria started they were in the top 3 of countries accepting refugees worldwide themselves. Saudi Arabia and the other rich Gulf states treat Muslims from other countries like slaves, you'd also know there's little cultural or "ideological" common ground between these countries if you actually bothered to inform yourself.
It's a lazy horseshit accusation, nothing else. You're using anecdotal evidence to make assumptions about 1.5bn people on this planet, don't be surprised when people don't take you serious.
