It's a crazy country. I've lived here for close to a decade, but I find it very hard to get my head around how the people feel about their guns. The best way I can describe it is that it must be a guilty pleasure... Americans must know deep within themselves that it makes no sense to possess and use guns so blatantly in a society that isn't at war, but the country is essentially founded on the premise that it's every citizen's right to own one, and of course it's big business for the NRA.
the craziest thing about it is that the 2nd amendment has been completely twisted to somehow give individual citizens the right to own guns. it almost hurts my brain how poorly that amendment has been mangled.
the other funny thing is that people cling to the 2nd amendment and want it interpreted literally, yet when that was written, the people who wrote it wore powdered wigs, had wooden teeth, didnt know what electricity was and had to use single shot muskets that barely worked.
