Things happening in the US get covered the same way despite New York being five times the distance from central Europe than say Istanbul. The reason for that is clearly not geographical but ideological proximity.

Frankfurt airport on alert as well. Expecting something to go down here as well pretty soon, most likely the first German city that will be targeted in the future.

While it was ongoing it was covered but it never dominated in the way Paris did and probably this will.

I understand that it is important to not rush to conclusions, but we all know that Islamists are behind this. The only question is whether this is ISIS or some other group.

Well again 911 was a bit different from any of the attacks in Turkey because first of all 3000 people died. And quite significantly anything happening like this in the US is a major news story because they will react and that will effect the entire planet. In some ways thats true of the coverage of Paris and now Brussles too, they will significantly shift the political landscape across the EU.

There is no sole reason for the amount of media coverage these things get. Its a combination of many factors including the ones you are alluding too.

If I had to guess I'd say it's the local group around Abdeslam. The cops were closing in on them after Friday and this looks like an act of desperation.

There is no border control, public safety, military or surveillance measure that is going to stop this from happening. Chances are very good no EU leader will say or promise anything in relation to this with any prospect of improving the situation.

You always had religion but there were times when you had not nearly as many zealots and extremists. You also had many extremists among atheists and communists, simply blaming this on faith is extremely lazy. I was referring to San Bernardino (despite naming New York for some reason) in my earlier post btw. You're right that there's a number of different factors playing a role in media coverage.

As a side note in Belgium and especially France it's ridiculously easy to get arms. I was offered fully automatics once on the parking lot of a service area barely past Strasbourg ffs.

I agree that it's petty but it's not like these comments weren't around before today, it's just now that they're visible to most.

It was the Turkish that asked and commented first.

Meanwhile you get level headed people like gurgen and Irish telling it how it is. The fact is there's little anger for non-Europeans because they're not like "us".
