I don't think it comes down to 'means' - after all it's a small group of individuals at large vs an entire military. It was all about taking hostages and playing the long game. I think even the crazy guy who held up a cafe in Australia earlier this year bought the business district to a stand still for a day.

Also terrorist attacks are more common in India than in Paris, I think experience could also factor in.

Even if it isn't ISIS directly, groups like that are most probably the inspiration. I fear as long as they exist in any meaningful form shit like this will continue to occur.

People committed atrocities like these way before ISIS was a thing, Mirth just mentioned Mumbai 2008. I think it's easier for people to get radicalised now because of improved information channels, the crimes our governments commit elsewhere could be easily swept under the rug back in the day. Also like I said you can get AKs for a couple hundred Euros in France.

The sad thing is that the aim of this attack isn't to win a war, it's to plant terror and mistrust between existing communities - which in turn makes it easier to radicalise them.

It's sad that such events are taking place in Europe. It has happened a lot here, including the audacious 2008 attack and it breeds distrust which in turn causes more of these.

Of course, but these guys, and I'm assuming they fit the usual profile, i.e. social rejects, criminals and the uneducated are not smart or brave enough to dream up shit like this themselves. I'm certainly not suggesting groups like ISIS are the sole cause or even the main cause, but they can't help.
