Last january was the lowest point for me during all the years watching Arsenal.

By the time we started taking drubbings, i was used to us being shit. The 8-2 was a team littered with scrubs. Contrast this to the state of mind in 2005. I was thinking maybe, just maybe, as we had led for so long.

the biggest pain, but if you're not enjoying the way at all - if you have absolutely no appreciation of who you are rather than just narrowly what you get *- I don't see much sense of it anyway, regardless of the "lows" debate. It's just like - everything is external and not connected to you.

A life of eternal getting to the CL final only to be defeated constantly is a life of frustration and pain, but it's hardly "a low". It's the life of the very best - perhaps the cursed very best.

This isn't really a debate is it?
I think this thread, based on Sachin's question, is for people to express what is personal to them as regards how they were affected by events and results, doesn't have to be justified really.

Not sure if I should feel privileged or not with the OP directed at me - lol.

For me there have been several for differing reasons & all have been during the AW era simply because the bar for achievement has been so much higher.

Low points as games have included:

The Owen FA Cup loss - we dominated but lacked the urgency/determination to put the game away. We waied for the game to com to use rather than go out and take it.
The 2005 FA Cup win - we finished 2nd in the League that season but looked a very poor 2nd rate. Only redeeming feature was we won as karma re LFC loss above.
The CL Final loss. Our best & the epitome of AW's philosophy was undone by our shooting ourselves in the foot as we tend to do - a lack of discipline at key moments. Subsequently made all the worse by CFC's CL win.
- The Brum CCup final loss in 2011. The straw that broke the camel's back re AW's first Youth Project & the end of the Fabregas era. Unfortunately AW looked to keep much of the template re patterns as style when he threw out the bath water and looked to rebuild. If anything IMO he became more obsessed with ball players & the team/squad issues have still yet to be directly addressed on & off the pitch.
- The 2-8 at OT = our worst result in top flight ever.
- The thrashings against the peers last season - we are no longer respected let alone feared.
Aw's 1st season Double saw us still retain 2nd place behind LFC re titles - we are now in 3rd behind ManU who were 3rd at that point.

This decade post 2011 have seen our worst results/starts to the season in AW's tenure, the PL era and the last 50 years.
As such THIS is the low point in terms of performance.

However for me it's not THE low point, which for me came with reading John Cross' comments that prior to the Stadium we were a 2nd tier club with Elite ambition, and post the stadium we became an Elite club with 2nd tier ambition.

The series of events that began with DD's departure, AW assuming total control of the technical team, the debacle re Kroenke & Usmanov, Kroenke gaining control, the excuse & either/or cultures, the 'we are right to remain strong to our beliefs' - IMO the Youth Development Project has been a failure to date since 2008.

In a nutshell The Emirates Era - the Youth Project as Senior Team Policy, the tiki-taka style of play & all that goes with it on & off the pitch, the cluster that has been our ownership etc, but mainly the impression that football success is no longer what we are striving for as THE priority.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for / expected.

To me it's like the pain of just failing to scale Everest versus the embarrassment of falling in a shallow ditch. Silly extreme, i give you, but i know which i would prefer as one of them can easily be fixed in my lifetime.

It isn't a debate, but one can still wonder if that kind of pain reflects "a low". We've all passed the same events, though experienced them differently. I remember being low - like lying lifeless in a cold dark cellar - after the 8-2 (and still sucked out of life in other lesser but similar events). Was hurting - but damn proud - after the CL final. I just don't see how you can describe the mental state in which you are proud as a low. Doesn't contradict, or restrict, subjectivity.

What depressed you so much, knocking Spurs out of the FA cup?
Theo being injured?
Or that Wenger didn't make the loan of Swedish legend Kallstrom permanent?

Everyone with half a brain could see the collapse coming from a mile away. We all knew that we needed the reinforcements we failed to sign that summer in order to cope with a fixture schedule from hell, especially when our regular players started dropping like flies. Instead we did absolutely nothing for 30 days and then picked up a crooked has-never-quite-been on loan on deadline day. It's the biggest pisstake I've ever seen. I've never despised Wenger as much as I did when that transfer window ended. The months that followed felt like one long punch in the face in slow motion.

everything else pales. i don't mind cup final losses as much. we weren't embarrassed by any of Barca, Brum or Chelsea. i don't place THAT much value over winning the cup versus being in the cup final.

the lowest i felt emotionally is a toss up between the chavs knocking us out of europe in 04, or the end of the 98/99 season. it hits harder when you truly believe it should be your year.

AW seems to give a player a timeframe of about 3 seasons or until they reach 23 years of age if they are a development player.

It's not even close to my breaking point. I don't break down over football. It's just the lowest point I've ever experienced personally while watching Arsenal. Not because it was the most hurtful loss or because the team was at its worst, but because it was so bloody obvious that we would fuck everything up. And then we did it, exactly how I imagined it would happen, and all while Kim fucking Källström was plastered over the news: a player who at the height of his powers was barely good enough to sit on our bench. And now he was 32, hadn't played regular football for 18 months and had a cracked back. And we knew it when we signed him as the 'reinforcement' to get the team through the worst fixture period we had faced in half a decade. I will never forgive Wenger or the club for that. That was a clear signal to the rest of the world that we just didn't give a fuck anymore.
