Unless you mean Villa wanted an extra 2m for him. Maybe they did. But kinda weird for Liverpool to then change their asking price for Alonso as a result and only increase it by 100k. In that case they'd be better off asking for an extra 2m (which I sort of remember them wanting) or selling at the original price. 100k is less than a weeks wage, even those days.

Always makes me laugh when I see debates about the best player to have ever played in the PL or (even more ridiculous) best striker, and people put forward any name but his. The answer is Thierry Henry, every time. Anything else is just wrong.

He had signed a contract with Real Madrid around the time, but his pops reneged at the last moment. Which is why we never had to deal with them at any point during his career here, and only Barcelona were ever a threat, otherwise we might have lost him much earlier like Anelka.

Either way, with these kind of players succession planning is so important to maintain the standards. Real ended up with Benzema and are in hot pursuit of Mbappe. That's the level of talent we needed to keep the Henry era going.

Dunno if it's true but he's been super sucking up to United over the years even though he's just a footnote for them. All the United fans I know don't really have any strong feeling towards him. Yeah, he got them a title but just over the past 25 years they'd pretty much all have much fonder memories of all of Yorke, Cole, Ole at the Wheel, Sheringham, van Horseface, Granny Shagger, Cristina, Tevez, and Berbatov. Maybe there are even others I'm missing. They might be speaking now after these quotes just for our reactions but that's all there is.

van Persie, for all his talent, will end up leaving football with no real affinity with any of the sets of fans at the clubs he's played for. And you can tell it's really eating at him deep down.

Feyenoord fans hate him (or at least did back then) because of his antics with van Hooijdonk, Arsenal fans hate him for his bullshit way he forced himself out to leave and then cornered us into allowing him to go to United, United fans appreciate his role in helping them win what was probably one of the least memorable titles they've ever won plus dude was out injured the rest of his time there anyways (shock, horror). No clue wtf he did in Turkey tbh, but I doubt he pulled up any trees.

I used to hate him back when we had him. Our reliance on him killed us during those years. Don't get me wrong, it's not easy to replace a guy who had PL Player of the Year talent, but we were hamstrung by him.

RvP was a straight up snake, club showed him loyalty through his injuries and the moment he hit his potential he wanted out. Fabregas I only got pissed off when he joined Chelsea. He left us for his boyhood club, the manner he departed left a bitter taste but at the time Barca were one of the greatest sides in history, you couldn't begrudge him leaving. Joining Chelsea though.....

Though I would say as I've got older I am a bit more conflicted, on one hand yes they are absolute cunts for the way the left but on the other hand I look at how Arsenal football club at the time was being run and you think which top player would want to stay there? We were a mess on and off the pitch and the people running the club were all content as look as we kept finishing Top 4.

Football club and fans have no problem dumping players when they aren't good enough, we can be absolutely cut throat when it comes to that. However the moment a player displays that attitude towards us suddenly we have very different view and think the players should show loyalty!

Qwiss Wenger said in his book that Van Persie asked him if he could return when he was leaving them too. Thought he could leave to go to the hated rival, win a title and then return to a hero's welcome like coming home a war hero. Think it really gets to him that he's neither loved nor barely even remembered by United fans.

Clrnc Adebayor yes, Wenger wanted to sell him, I don't think he pushed for it really. He had one good season and then the next was ok, but he was already a diva and it was clear he was not putting in the same amount of work. So yeah, also...he has his demons and problems...it's ok.
