daredevil I'm sorry, but that's an insane thing to say, the guy was a genius footballer and I certainly haven't forgotten him. Nor, I'm sure have the Spaniards who watched him make history with La Roja.

I think all the time he spent in the PL he was no longer suited for Barca. When he went back to Barca they were trying to fit him in when it clearly wouldn't work. How could he get into the midfield of Busquets, Xavi & Iniesta?

Guy won nearly every major trophy except for the CL. When players retire they usually are associated with a club. Players like him and RvP probably don't have any set of fans who would call them one of their own.

When you look at the overall picture, Ozil doesn't come close to Fabregas in general over the entire career. Different level.

That's not my take. I thought he was brilliant and have no love lost despite him ending up at Chelsea.

Rather, that's how he seems to be perceived by the wider footballing community. Would be break into the top 10 best ever PL midfielders?

Going off on a tangent, what's your favourite Fabregas goal?

The second against Spurs always sticks out for me because he nicked it from the restarted and made his way through their team to score before the tv had even finished showing the replay of the first. Can't remember another goal like that anywhere, certainly not in such a high profile game.

Tam i don't know if it's my favourite, but another one v Spurs - this one at the Lane. He ripped one into the bottom corner from about 25 yards. Same game Adebayor scored probably his best ever goal for us in a 3-1 win.

Obviously the one you refer to was fantastic, as was the Milan one. And as for that cameo v Aston Villa, I think that said it all about Cesc in his time with us. Ozil wouldn't even have bothered to come to the stadium.

That's definitely his best, although my fondest memory of one of his goals was the one against Milan.

The time that makes me remember how dependent we were on him was when he started on the bench vs. Aston Villa because he'd been injured, but we couldn't score so he had to come on after an hour, scored two and then went off injured again.

Just yesterday saw a little kid maybe 5-6 years old playing football on a street in Malaga wearing an Arsenal shirt with Fabregas on the back. Instantly made me feel warm inside and brought back a lot of memories.

Shame how things worked out with him in the end. Absolutely loved him when he was here.

There was one assist vs Burnley, for a Schurrle goal I think, that was just absolutely ridiculous. It was painful to see him doing it for them.

Also that penalty he scored for us against Barca even though the guy was injured with a broken leg stands out.

Clrnc phenomenal talent. I haven't seen anything like him since.

I actually kind of hated how we/he changed his style from around 2009 when he moved to a second striker position.

He became an end product machine but we missed his deeper playmaking ability.

Wasn't that in his first game for them as well? It hurrrrrt a lot, but we'd only had Ozil a year and Arsene still had high hopes for Jack at that point I think.

I think Barcelona never really wanted him in the same way we did, they just didn't want us to have him. So they screwed us, but then I think we made £35m on a genius we picked up for peanuts, so we did okay really.

God, I loved him.

RocktheCasbah I don't think so. Pep just didn't know how to get the best out of him. And he has wrecked other players career as well by playing them out of position.

Playing him in false 9 is just stupid. He was so good that he could play there but it ruined his natural game.

mohan I will never forget that goal he scored vs Ludogorets. Best goal I have ever seen live in my life. Or the world cup he took by storm, hell, I can still remember the feeling when he signed for us, I was so happy....What a player he was, and the crazy thing is he could have done even more.

HomeSteak Wow, lucky to see that live. Incredible goal. So talented but so flaky - sad how it's all ended but he's really ruined his own legacy. Given his attributes, no reason for him to suffer such a sharp decline other than because of a lack of motivation (which to be fair is going to be hard after winning a world cup).

Think I’ll always remember him for his performances in the 2010 World Cup, over anything he did for Arsenal. He was fantastic, when he wanted to be, but give me Odegaard any day of the week.

He fucked up his back. It's genuinely weird how Arsenal fans want to invent pseudo-psychological reasons to bash him instead of simply accepting the most parsimonious explanation.

RocktheCasbah That's brilliant. Red Dwarf has always been one of my favourites and I still know most of those monologues word for word. I remember a school teacher I had many years ago used to pass off Red Dwarf quotes as his own all the time (it wasn't especially well known in NZ so I was the only one who knew them) and he used that speech as a farewell at the end of the year.
