It'd take a big implosion from Real for Barca to even get close. Real do need to play Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, but they still need to drop nine points in their last 7 games and that's assuming Barca win all of their remaining fixtures.

I mean, this makes me a bit more angry at Auba than at Arsenal. The guy was trash all season and worked the club to get his ideal move, then turns it on when he leaves? How are we not being critical of the player in this situation?

He's in a different team with different instructions and a different manager. A player improving or the opposite after changing club doesn't mean he didn't do his best at his former club or that he isn't doing his best at the new club, respectively.

Even in his last season at Dortmund when he was openly at odds with the club hierarchy he was always scoring. We create chances at a rate comparable to bottom table teams, he moves to a team in free scoring form and you think the reason he scores again is because "he turns it on"?

You've written some of the smartest and most thoughtful posts in this forum in the OT section but your views how football works are baffling at times

Honestly watching Auba, especially at the start of the season, he looked like he was putting huge effort in. The fact he was actually going in physically with defenders for long balls and actually winning them showed me that.

He was just hardly getting much service and when you get one half chance a game it plays with your confidence. He looked like he was struggling with confidence and form and coupled with the lack of service it just wasn't working.

Never got the impressuon he wasn't trying though, at least not this season.

For the last 8 years or so Auba has consistently been one of the best goalscorers in the world. The one exception is the period starting with Arteta's first full season in charge, and now he's back to normal levels after getting away from here. He didn't even go to a great team; Barcelona were a laughing stock and one of the most malfunctional big clubs in Europe when he joined them. So much for the easy ride. Meanwhile we've continued to score like paupers. You'll never find a more obvious correlation in your life.

The weirdest comment I always see about Auba here is that he is not trying for us on the field. It is very obvious he is putting in close to his best if not the best for us even when in one entire game he hardly have any service to touch the ball, which can be very depressing for strikers. Laca meanwhile is always viewed as a hard worker but last 2 games and a couple more last season he was so slow and slack but nobody spotted it.

Bascially Xavi played to Auba's strengths, while setting his team up around his midfielders.

Anyway, another guy who is doing superbly well is Guendouzi. Been one of Ligue 1's best midfielders this year, even outshone the PSG mega stars. Great article about him here.

Sampaoli is a good man manager and has managed to get the best out of him, making him mature and already said he will be one of the best CMs in the world.

I wish we can get him back to sell him now for a higher fee or simply just reintegrate him back into the team, but Marseille already activated the permanent clause of 10m euros.

Giving them that clause was such a fuck up. Sometimes I wonder did they do it just so they wouldn't have to deal with people saying "bring him back" when he inevitably did well.

Nor does it somehow automatically mean the inverse. It's really not much of a leap to realize that Auba always seems to get his way.
