I think that's unfair.
Lot's of ex-players get the TV gig without being accused of feeding an ego.
That analyst job involves highlighting the good (praise) and picking on mistakes (criticism) as well as offering advice/solutions.
As one of the best ever to play his position, he was a good fit for TV companies as his opinion would automatically carry more weight than the likes of Robbie Earle, Paul Marriner and Shaka Hislop who require a gimmick to cause a ripple.
Although i, personally, have never warmed to him in the studio i think the job should not be the exclusive domain of "sports journalists" whose opinions are, understandably, much of a muchness as they come from the same pool, drink in the same bars and associate/socialise with the same people.
