Oh he did? I somehow have it stuck in my head that he had never scored more than 2 goals a season for us. Maybe that was before last season then. 10 G+A for someone who is firmly backup feels quite good though.

I don't have antipathy towards Ox, but I think the season-ending injury he's just picked up is a great reminder of how important it can be to move injury prone players on when an opportunity arises.

Hope he recovers well but it sounds like he'll be in rehabilitation well into next season with no guarantees.

Very sad for the ox, sounds like a very long term injury on the knee that he already injured in the past. Must be absolutely gutted to miss out on the world cup when he's been in such good form too.

Seems a likable enough guy, so I'm sad for him.

Also think it's telling that after all his talk of being a CM he did his knee in on a tackle. That was an incredibly awkward tackle, looked like what you'd expect from someone who has never fancied the defensive side of the game.

That's my takeaway too. You can have one or two when the potential is worth the gamble but any more than that and you're crippling the whole team.

I do feel for Ox; I've always liked him as a player and think he has tremendous potential, but this is probably a top tier career ender. It took him over two years to get back on track last time.

What's this outpour of sympathy for this prick? He gave us five extremely inconsistent or downright poor seasons, Wenger stood by him when he was stinking up the place and sacrificed players like Campbell or Gnabry for him. He has one very much mixed season during which he's not injured for once and then forces a move

Worse he turns down Chelseas better offer so he can move to Liverpool to emulate his dickhead idol Stevie Me, a day after his Sunday league performance against the Scousers. He's articulate for a footballer and knows how to sell himself to the audience but he's an entitled little prick and deserves no sympathy, thinking about his pathetic strop on the pitch vs Bayern last season he's really no better than Gallas for me.

Him having a shit career actually strengthens my point that Wenger made the wrong call, I don't think it's exactly debatable that he's way more talented than the little prick.

Oh come on Jonesy. Campbell is a fraction as talented as Chamberlain. No one is ever going to pay more than pocket change for him. He's been at loan at a dozen clubs and has the same goal average as a centreback at most of them, and that's despite being a forward and not a midfielder. He basically has zero upside.

Campbell was ruined by Wenger's abject management of his, five countries in five years after moving to Europe as a teenager ffs. He's still achieved more than Ox - led his country to a World Cup quarter final topping a group with Italy Uruguay and England on the way, when he got even a little game time he'd put in MOTM performances vs the likes of Spain and he also dragged us into the CL Ro16 when he set up all three goals for Giroud's hat trick vs Olympiakos. What highlights does Ox have in 200 appearances, a couple nice runs vs Bayern a shit haircut and lots of banter.

It's heartening to read that fans are decent enough to put vengeful notions aside and feel for Chamberlain.

He's been cursed by some severe injuries, this looks another one, must wear the mind down to be kept from playing and being part of the team set up.

I wonder if there was a solid knowledge that he is predisposed to these injuries involved in the decision to sell him?

I doubt it. They sold him because he wouldn't sign a new contract. Not even Wenger could turn down £35m for one more season of Ox.
