Wenger was the one who took the call from Fergie, got persuaded by Fergie and personally sanctioned the deal.
I suppose the reason I care so little about it now, is because in the intervening years it's become clear that the management and players are so seperate and out of tune with fans expectations on loyalty that I see it as part of a new norm and reality in football.
Wenger and co will sell any player to any club for the right price, and players will go anywhere they need or want to suit themselves (or their agents).
