Credit to him, I think we all know as blokes that we don't find it easy to make ourselves vulnerable and speak openly. It is incredibly hard and probably a big reason why so many males go down darker paths which can result in suicide or self harm. Important to see big public figures speak about this.
Football players especially can find themselves in vulnerable positions at the end. When you are rich and famous everyone wants to be around you but at the end you find out who your friends really are. I know people in their 70s who refuse to retire, they aren't doing it for the money but because they don't know what else to do in life so decide to work part time. We are all similar age here so a we have a bit of time but it is hard when you stop working and don't know what to do with your life. Football players make a lot of money but they also retire very early, a lot of them in their 30s which when you think about it is super young. People think they have money and you quickly realise that you need more than that. Can be hard to find purpose in their life after that. Unfortunately these days some of them seem to have found podcasting and winding up Arsenal fans....
We sometimes talk about players being finished after injuries and we had this discussions about Odegaard, Havertz, Saka and White but we don't realise these are young men and these injuries can really affect them mentally which will be reflected on the pitch.
Should also say to all those on this forum as well, if there is shit going on we should be able to offload on each other. We have known each other for a long time and a lot of us have families and other commitments so life can get you down. Next to where I work the pub landlord committed suicide a few years back, saw him the day before and had a quick chat with him, would never have suspected anything.
