What's a past contract have relevance and what's the point of bringing that into the argument.
Because midfielders/defensive midfielders in our team get paid less than the more offensive players. We didn't pay Arteta much even though he was an established Premier league player while other players in our team were making considerably more.
We pay Welbeck more now than we did Henry at his peak.
There's a 10 year gap between those two contracts. Moreover we were much tighter with our budget around that period. You can't seriously compare the two.
As I said even Podolski is on 100k a week.
Further highlights my point, a German international with 100 caps to his name who was pencilled into be a first choice attacking player vs a relatively unknown defensive midfielder who wouldn't be a guaranteed starter. This is around the same time Arteta was offered 30k less a week. If that doesn't show a clear discrepancy in wages between midfielders and attackers, nothing will.
As Regards the blue bolded bit- That was 4 years ago. Can you compare his wages to wages of other players then?
A relatively unkown midfielder who's already went for more than 15m 2 years ago to Monaco?
I'll skip the word defensive midfielder because if you've seen him play he's not a DM. You know who plays DM for Monaco? Toulalan.
And defensive players earn less? Must have forgotten that Cech is going to earn 100k a week too.
The fact is many players earn more or similar. Doesn't matter the position if they are fringe or regular players.
The transfer fee is clearly affordable by the club.
Now if you choose to believe otherwise that's upto you.
