Coq should look at Wenger's history of the past few years - DM is the position he has always skimped on. If he keeps up his performances for the rest of the season, I have no doubt that Wenger will keep him as first choice (rightly or wrongly is up for debate).

I don't quite know where the notion comes from that Coquelin didn't play well at Charlton. Not that I watched a single second of him there, but looking at his stats from when he got there it looks as if he was a sub for his first two games and then started the rest. It took him all of two weeks to make the manager see that he was better than any of his other options... Charlton also wanted to keep him!

He could not get into Freiburg's team either so he has had some tough seasons since coming out of the youth team. I think it speaks volumes about the guy's mental strength (ha) the way he's come into the side and performed instantly while giving his all to the team.

I honestly would not be averse to the idea of him being our no 1 DM for the future if he keeps delivering for the remainder of the season. His lack of reputation should not overshadow his actual performances which merit a starting place in the side. Maybe he's just a late bloomer? Would not be the first.

I was cautiously optimistic ahead of the Man City game, because he had done well, but I wanted to see how he would perform against a proper team. For me, I think he passed with flying colors. Now, I'd defo want him to sign a new contract. He is still a young boy though, and I fully expect him to not keep the standard he has shown so far, so we certainly still need another class central mid.

Coq has done well but this has the feeling of the flamini all over this.

Players have their best form in the last period of their contract and he may well just be a flash in the pan. Also, we should be aiming for a top class defensive mid to back up the quality we have in attacking mid players.

If he signs an extension we can at least sell him off for a few quids in case his performances drop again.

Of course, we wont be signing another DM in the summer then.
