There are few players who have the luxury of being in the situation he is right now. He'll drop back to the bench (or even the stands) when Arteta comes back, so he has a window of maybe 4 more weeks where he can sort something out with another club. He would be stupid not to do it.
If he maintains this form for the duration of Arteta's injury, i.e. pretty much the rest of the season, then he'll keep his place. As for signing someone else, our efforts to sign much needed players in recent windows, particularly in his position, should give him much confidence, particularly if his performances significantly dampen the urgency to sign anyone in that position.
The fact is though, you'd have to be pretty unambitious to give up quite possibly your last chance to make it at the very top.
