The race for... 4th - 2014/2015 edition

So with todays result we are 12 points behind the leaders Chelsea who seem to be running away with the league. The thread title might seem a tad dramatic as no other team have been impressing so 2nd should be reachable but as we all know it's all about that holiest of grails: the 4th place Champions League spot. With Liverpool and Spurs self distructing it seems our main rivals will be United and Southampton this season.

Looking at the quality players in our squad it seems we are front runners for a CL spot but the way we have been playing so far and with Wenger at the helm, I have a bad feeling about this year.

So what do you reckon. Whats the point total needed this year for fourth, who are the teams to beat and whats the best we can hope for in the league at this point?

United will beat us in a couple of weeks and they'll spend money in January, so we'll have to go on a run and hope Koscielny comes back alright.

We're playing with a handicap and that handicap is our fucking manager, he loves fourth though, so we'll do it

The only crumb of hope I have is that this group of players surely can't continue to play at such a low standard for much longer

dont underestimate how crap everyone else is. we'll probably fall over the line for fourth.

should have kept gervais, chamakh, park and benayoun, and just slashed ticket prices. wouldve been the same results and better value for money!

As sad as it is for all of those aforementioned teams, we really are. It seems like a bunch of people on this forum are going to be stunned by how genuinely not good this Man U team is.

Not confident at all this time.

I'd have laughed at someone suggesting that we won't make it when the season started, but Wenger keeps finding ways to take us to new lows.

What does it really matter anyway?

Just means we won't be subject to frustrating limp dicked champions league exits and we'll have less money in the bank.

I reckon finishing third or fourth depends who out of us, United, Liverpool sorts their useless defences out best.
I probably should not dismiss Everton or Southampton as outside chances for fourth either.

Even if we get to TOP4, it will be on the last day after yet another unconvincing performance. You know, just like in any of the last 5 seasons.

Guess we can expect a panic buy in January like Arshavin now that it looks like 4th will be in doubt.

Just have to hope Ozil comes back as the world class player he can be

If we get atleast half a season of Alexis, Ozil and Theo is the team we should be ok

I'll just enjoy watching Alexis, Mesut and Theo play together if it ever happens. Then when we finish fourth I'll be positive about us next season with a new DM and CB depth, and then Wenger will sign a playmaker and we'll go again.
