Ramsey is guilty of being too good last season. He'd have needed to recreate that amazing form to not have certain fans turn on him.

Well, Ramsey last year not only played at his highest level, but he scored more goals than he had a right to as well. He scores a goal against Dortmund or Man U and I am pretty certain this thread wouldn't have been bumped.

I think it's going to be tough for us keeping Ramsey in central midfield, and a AM in front who doesn't defend.

The ideal is to have a DM, a disciplined CM, and a loose AM. (Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta or Alonso, Modric, Di Maria)

We have an unnatural DM, a loose CM, and an even looser AM.

Ramsey was all over the place even at 2-0 against Dortmund. Despite, all of the supposed lessons of recent months.

So if we accept that Ramsey is going to run around all over the shop. We then need his two midfield partners to be disciplined. If we place Ozil, then that's not going to happen.

A reference point for Ramsey is Gattuso. The Italian had a similar engine and work rate. He also had Pirlo and Seedorf/Ambrosini positionally covering his arse.

As is stands, we need our DM to cover Ozil and Ramsey's arses, and it's simply too much space and workload.

I think Dules made a good choice in the Wish List thread.

Schneiderlin behind Gundogan and Ramsey is very well balanced.

I would like to see how this would work;

It's fair that when he had bad games, he gets criticized. When he was great last year, he was praised in accordance. There's no need to continuously maintain that he's great even in games where it's so obvious he had an awful game. That goes for Ozil too. Don't think I have ever seen you say he had a bad game. It's rather interesting to see your extreme views about players you particularly like and dislike.

That's true. He has never been a complete dud (silvestre).
His poor games were mitigated by his recovery from a broken leg and the shifts he put in.
My biggest criticism of him, at the time, were the extravagant flicks that lost us possession and him trying and failing to play like Fabregas.
He isn't anywhere near as bad now and only needs to stay back more.

Ramsey doesn't need to maintain last seasons form to stop fans turning on him. He just needs to add more discipline into his game

Of course everyone has to justify their place in the team, but it's obvious our problems are strategical and tactical rather than individual in nature.

What I think is a bad game and what you think is a bad game differs, that's all. Both Ramsey and Özil have had plenty of them and they will have plenty more. I just don't use them as a stick to beat the players with.

I think it's pretty boring to argue he said/she said, but I've been nothing but consistent in my view on those two players. It's not a surprise to me that Ramsey is worse going forward this season without Özil there to create space for him to exploit.

We expect a bit more from Ozil than just creating space for Ramsey though.

This isn't the Özil thread, but I think he delivered last season. It's becoming increasingly clear to me that our inability to get the most out of him stems from Wenger's refusal to put him to best use, if anything. Which is weird, because no matter how poor we were in the past you could at least say with a straight face that Wenger knew his attacking players. But he simply doesn't anymore. This is why he fucked up what actually worked last season, instead of repairing the stuff that didn't. Which means that we're still vulnerable, only now we don't get as much out of Ramsey either. Wenger played Özil centrally two times before he got injured, and on both occasions Özil and Ramsey were - arguably - our two best players. It's just not surprising to me anymore.

I have said it before, and I am not alone with that theory, but I think what happened at the start of the season was all down to getting Wilshere in the team. I think it had little to do with Alexis, because he has shown before, and is showing now, that he can play all across the front 4 positions to good effect.

Things are not working out atm for Ramsey but, with Jack out, i think he will flourish as he will get to receive more of the ball deeper in midfield.

It was Klaus who raised the subject of Ozil in relation to Ramsey.

And thats untrue anyway Tone, but the best person to convince me is Ozil himself.

Wilshere was in the team whenever he was fit last season. We also played Arteta/Ramsey/Wilshere in CM in preseason before we bought Özil and tried 4-3-3 in a couple big games last season, this is clearly a tactical switch that Wenger had been contemplating for a while IMO. It was a mistake for a lot of reasons of course.
