They're Gibbs-esque defenders in that they really are wingers who put themselves about so they were shunted further back the pitch. Rafael has been making schoolboy mistakes all season long and unlike Wenger, Ferguson doesn't put up with anyone who may possibly get in the way of a few extra points/season.

Debuchy is a very good player and would instantly improve that position, imo.

I know what you mean, but you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you have higher expectations of any comparable starlet we do sign. Anyone in Hazard's category would look at us as a stepping stone.

Goetze seems quite grounded. Willing to stay at Dortmund, achieve everything that he can, improve himself and maybe then look to move. I suppose it helps to play in Germany rather than France but Hazard has linked himself with half a dozen clubs, and not just in the Nike ad, and it's a little disconcerting to see that happen so blatantly in public.

Exactly what I mean. "Götze seems more grounded," yes, but if a player of that calibre comes here and we're not walking off with PL trophies, he'll probably move on to a bigger club in a few seasons. Nature of the beast which is why I think the criticism of Hazard's a bit OTT.

Sure, but I'd rather he didn't whore himself out like this, Fabregas and Nasri didn't do anything nearly as bad but still got plenty of stick. There's nothing wrong with looking for a better move, whether you're Hazard at Lillie or Ronaldo at Manchester United, but keep it to yourself.

Unlike Hazard, Götze seems like a really smart kid. More or less a coincidence, IIRC, that Götze ended up playing football. Imagine that.

Hazard gets a lot of stick, but you've also got to consider how long he has been chased by the top clubs, and how many of his double winning team mates left last season, whilst he stayed and has had another top season trying to help his club keep their trophies.

He's 21 now, he's won all he's going to win at Lille, it's time for him to leave, and because of the way he's handled himself at the club he'll leave a hero.

Goetze's situation is totally different.
