We all knew fabregas was gone the moment barca started their illicit courtship, same with many of our old players - even Henry as blasphemous as it may sound to some. Many of our players as their contracts run down, or when they feel they've 'paid back' what they owe Wenger for putting his faith in them when they were nobodies find it hard to remain interested in our loser, 4th place 'cause', and quite frankly, I don't blame them.

If any player can come in and improve our side, (and more importantly to the board, the bottomline), we would definitely give him support. I know I'd rather cheer on a Eden Hazard, than either Theo or Gervinho.. Regardless of how much the latter duo may be into our 'cause', they don't have the ability or quality we require.

If we have the money for an Eden Hazard then we have the money to target similarly talented players who want to stay for longer than 2-3 seasons and move on.

Henry and Cesc were at the club for 8 years apiece. That's like, the opposite to what's being discussed with regard to Hazard.

@ Tim: First of all, due to our trophy drought, it's not likely that there are many quality players out there who will want to play for Arsenal for longer than a few years whilst they develop their game.

Secondly, I only used Henry and Fabregas as an example to show that even people we consider legends were not willing to stay for much longer once it became apparent that we lack ambition and opportunities abound to win trophies at other clubs. So we really shouldn't expect such loyalty from Hazard, or any other player for that matter.

If we continue thus, I would be surprised if even Wilshere hangs around past his 25th birthday.

Flo: This is circular though isn't it? If we are willing to spend big on Hazard then we can spend big on somebody else. We are in the position we're in because we dont buy top quality players. Imo, Hazard strikes me as the type who will jump ship regardless as soon as he thinks he's ready for a Barca or Madrid, whereas there are plenty of top players that would love to stay at Arsenal long term if we were winning things, just like Henry, Vieira, Bergkamp and Pires did.

I don't mind him jumping ship, as long as he has contributed something and improved the team greatly. If whilst he's here, he helps us win a trophy or two, even better for us. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo at ManU for example.

I get where you guys are coming from, and see what you're saying - he could pull a Nasri/Flamini on us. I'm saying I don't really care- that's the nature of the game nowadays, and its even worse for a team that's not winning anything or truly competing for top honours.

For me, as long as he improves the side whilst he's here, i'm happy. I won't begrudge any player for having ambition or wanting to earn more money. I certainly wouldn't cheer any less if he scores the goal that helped break our trophy drought just because he's not behind the 'cause'.

Yeah, but Ronaldo is a one in a million footballer, I'd take him right now even if he's here for six months. [Also he spent six seasons at United but anyway]

However, Hazard is one in a multitude of good players around at the moment who can improve us and I'd rather we sign one of the others who would quite like a team to be built around them, rather than the one who's more likely to jump ship as soon as he comes good before the ink has dried on the contract.

Of course, I'd take him over Walcott and Gervinho, but those aren't the only two options available to us.

It's a moot point, but I'd much rather we focussed on getting the players in now who'll most likely help us win regularly in the next three year, than worry about them maybe deciding to go after that time is up.

3 years is a long time, both in football and in life, and a lot can change - he might meet a girl, settle down, have kids etc, and decide he wants to live in Lodon forever. Who knows.

I get your point, anyway, but if we actually signed Hazard I'm pretty sure it would get forgotten in all the excitement.

It is naive to think players have the same feelings for a club as a fan. You say "hard to support players who aren't fully into our cause" Dules. They are employees first and foremost. Genuine love for a club is rare these days. I am positive none of us really want to know which of our current players would want to leave us in an instant if Real Madrid or Barcelona came calling. I bet there are many.

If a Hazard or anybody else is to be an interesting player for any of those clubs though, it means he has done really, really well at the club he is bought from. Why can´t that be us?

Don't need this at our club. If we signed him in summer of 2012, would he and Nike be releasing another viral video in 2015? "What is Eden Hazard's next move from Arsenal" they'll be saying, as we struggle to keep up with City and United. Get me a flock of Germans.
