Koscielny is much better on the ball. So's Bellerin.

Anyway, I've already said that it's not a choice between Chambers and Bellerin for me. It's a choice between playing all your central defenders at once and keeping someone fresh for when injuries inevitably strike. It's going to be a sad, sad season if Monreal will be one of our regular centrebacks.

Bellerin is a reserve player, plus he hasn't really demonstrated his ability at the top level like Chambers.

I can't see the argumetn to play a reserve over a first XI player. We need a stron XI not planning for the idea that two of mertesacker, chambers, and kos go down at the same time. Bellerin is the weaker RB by a his lack of experience if nothing else. No need to open ourselves to that issue on a regular basis unless we need to.

We're not choosing between a starter and a reserve. We're picking one of two squad players.

Personally not opposed to Bellerin starting ahead of Chambers at right back. It's not really an issue in my opinion.

Anyone who can't see why Chambers is starting over Bellerin, at this point in their careers, is just looking for something to be upset about.

8 days ago the biggest game Bellerin had played in was a league cup game against WBA.

😆 It's a combination of things.

Klaus saying that starting our best available right back is "senseless" threw me off a bit. I think I read too much into it, I took it to mean that Klaus thinks someone should be playing instead of him.

The page and a half comparing the two players after that didn't help things either.

Throw in you liking a young player and I just don't know right from left.

Don't worry about it too much, by Christmas we'll probably be lucky to have 11 fit players so there won't be any arguments over who should play.

Yeah but they'll be 11 fit attacking midfielders so Wenger will be chuffed.

Any idea if Kalstrom can play right back?

Yeah good point, even allowing for an attrition rate of 80% in all areas we should still have 11 fit attacking midfielders.

What are we expecting from Chambers next season? Could he be the one to displace Per and make the RCB his own?

Hope not. He can displace Mertesacker as the 3rd CB to begin with.

I don't think Wenger rates him as a centreback for whatever reason.

He's got too much to learn to play a significant role next season. He can't be starting in a position as important as centreback for us in the near future.

We should stop buying Southampton youth players.

Chambers is decent but, even if he improves, he looks like he's at least year away from making his breakthrough.

If we see up fourth with 2/3 games to spare, I'd really like to see him get those games at CB. People forget but when he came straight into the team when he first signed he was genuinely good, made a few mistakes but not worse than Mertesacker or even Koscielny, and certainly better than what we've seen from Gabriel
