Man Utd desperately need an experienced centre back, and the Vermaelen to Man Utd rumours seem quite strong. Maybe Van Gaal really rates him. If they can't land Hummels or any other big names we might be able to twist this in our favour. I can imagine Wenger being interested mainly because he's versatile (or at least able to run up and down in several positions).
Phil Jones does have tremendous potential to be fair. A swap deal between him and Vermaelen would be ace.
He and Smalling are too much of a crock, they will join Diaby on the treatment table
Wenger wanted Jones before he went to United. And in terms of transfer value we'd come out pretty well. Potential is there but Jones/Smalling/Evans have all suffered a couple years of bad development, not a given that any of those three will reach their potential.
Jones strikes me as the type to get a nosebleed every time he has to leave the North West.
I find Jones a wee bit endearing. He looks like he has no idea what to do with all that energy. I don't think his headless chicken routine will be as fun when he's 25 though.
United aren't serious about selling him though, are they? Because, honestly, it's a no brainer if they are. Capello, Ferguson and Wenger all rate the hell out of him. That's as good an endorsement as any player is ever going to get.
Reckon they'd let Smalling go but not Jones. It's all guesswork right now anyhow, van Gaal won't have made any decisions yet.

This is kind of what I meant by "doesn't seem like an Arsenal player". We haven't had a big thick weird looking northern player in about 20 years.
I like him a lot. Would be happy with a Jones Vermaelen swap to be honest.
I like him. He has all the potential to be a very good center back.
United have three centre backs, one left back, and one right back. All of them except Shaw are pretty injury prone - I don't see any reason why they'd sell anyone.

Mind games!
We could do a lot worse for a 3rd/4th CB.
Beauty of the squad would come drastically down however.
If we get Jones i will laugh my ass off at Yanited.
If we get Jones for Vermaelen, we get a much better deal twice the value for money. I would be delighted. Jones can play in midfield too.
He seems almost permanently injured, if he is for sale that's the only reason they're contemplating selling him I reckon.

I'm trying to think of the last one. John Hartson was from Wales.

Nah Smalling and Jones aren't for sale. Wenger's just pushing for them cos he's been a fan of theirs for years. And it's very smart to buy english if the quality is there.
Yeah thinking about it more I'd definitely make this swap.
