Santi is a quality player being asked to do something he isn't ideally suited to do. He still has a lot of value in our team though. For one he will shoot from range, so often in games where we are dicking around passing it sideways 30 yards from goal Santi is the one to go and make things happen. He was terrible on Saturday but he was far better than that even last season.
I'm of the opinion that there are a group of players who all did ok but could have done better last season (Santi, Ozil, Giroud, Jack, Gibbs, etc) and people then decide to throw them into the "did well" or "was shite" categories based on how much they like or dislike the player personally. Really only Gibbs, Mertesacker and Kos were outstanding last year. Not too many were really terrible. People don't like that though, they prefer to hype things into binary groups of good and bad.
