I have noticed a lot on here: big up our overrated players like Cazorla and Ozil but dismiss world class opposition players like Suarez, Rooney and Cesc.

I know were an dedicated Arsenal forum but we won something last year, let go of this small time attitude.

It's ok to applaud the competition.

Matic - Fabregas is the ultimate CM pairing, total balance.

For all the talk of fabregas being carried defensively he managed 3 tackles, 3 interceptions, and a clearance today.

I think Sterling is fantastic.

For some it seems the only correct way to talk about the performances of football players is to give 5 points extra to our players because they are ours, and let the opposition players start with minus 5. An undeserved superiority complex.

Matic is the one. Was gutted when they signed him and has fitted in well in their team.

Our rivals for the title have Matic and Fernando as holders, we have Arteta. That's the biggest difference I'm afraid.

Yep and Yaya is probably the best midfielder in the league.

But I guess it doesn't count unless its Chelseas players, all their players and especially their manager. Some people have a really weird obsession with Chelsea. Same people who I had to tell last season that Chelsea wouldn't win anything, especially not the league. Here they are again though, all obsessed with Chelsea.

There's a distinction to be drawn between applauding memorable performances in great games (big occasion, top team v top team - Chelsea v Burnley doesn't qualify) versus the almost awestruck bowing and scraping that goes on around here.
Last I checked Cesc and Rooney failed on the big stage of the WC.
What exactly are we supposed to be applauding them for?

By the way Aguero got lots of applause for his goal yesterday.
It was brilliant.

Ozil's been top class since 2011 anyway, an average first season in English football doesn't suddenly mean he's got to prove himself all over again. He needs to adapt and take responsibility, sure, but his quality isn't up for debate.

Great midfielder and my favourite player outside Arsenal.

Are "some people" basically Alfonso? No one else likes Chelsea and Mourinho as much as him.

Come to think of it perhaps Biggus and to a lesser extent Lagos. But I couldn't believe the joy I saw in some when they beat Barca in 2012 in the CL. I was genuinely quite shocked and angry.

cesc will most likely be top class with chelsea. i know plenty of people wanted us to get him back, and this will probably create plenty of debate whenever cesc has a world class game, which will happen a few times between now and february when he downs tools.

It's so weird to look back on games he had against Chelsea when he played for us. You'd never think he'd effectively have his best years at Stamford Bridge.

The chants from both sets of supporters will be interesting when we meet.

He needs to prove himself in England, no question. No one cares what he did for Germany or Real or Werder.

He needs to play like a don here. It's great that he has talent but we need results now.

I sense that it's because it's Alfonso who's saying it and the way he's saying it rather than the actual message that people have a problem with.

I personally don't buy that Ozil has been world class for Arsenal so far.

He's been class though, and there are stats to back it up. The rest is just empty words.

The words aren't empty. You disagree but they're not empty.

I can see football with my own eyes. I don't need stats. He's been good but not world class and hasn't been a game changer enough times for me. I hope he improves and takes the league by storm.

For the record I don't hate him or think Cesc is better or love Chelsea or want to marry Mourinho.

The question of whether he's been world class or not is irrelevant, I mean.

We can argue all day about subjective views, but ultimately it's very easy for someone who thinks he was class last season to back up that opinion with tangible numbers (just browse a few pages back and that should get you started), and pretty hard for someone who thinks that "he's done fuckall in 2014" to do the same. Statistics don't tell the whole story but I have a lot more time for people who can argue their viewpoint properly than those who think that every single opinion is as good as the next "because my eyes don't lie".

I'm not referring to you here, Tony, so relax.

Özil may need to prove himself to the fans who just don't like him because he's not a "big" personality, he doesn't make himself seen or heard in every game.
Fans seem to expect that for £40m you get a certain character as well as a certain talent.
I reckon that his personality is such that some fans will never warm to him or appreciate him.
The sneering glee with which his fluffed goal attempt in the GermanyvBrazil game was greeted in some parts was quite revealing.
