It's all about how ambitious the owners are.

Fair enough, ours were content with finishing top 4 for the last 8 years, they had their reasons. Now that we've come through the hard times financially, with the help of Arsène no doubt, there's no reason to start looking beyond 3rd and 4th and start setting our sights at the title again. At the moment, it looks like he doesn't have enough to take us that far, so we should just thank him for his contribution and find someone who has.

Perhaps 'culture of winning' wasn't really the right term. What I'm really referring to as a level of ambition throughout the club for it to be the best. Of course it's not enough on its own to guarantee success, but combined with huge resources it certainly goes a long way. Obviously United are suffering significantly for the departure of Ferguson, and Moyes was clearly the wrong choice last season, but I think that a good manager (remains to be seen if Van Gaal can be that manager) and some sensible squad investment over the next 2 seasons will see them competing for the prem again. I just don't see them doing a Liverpool (though I'd love it if they did!). On the other hand, I just don't see that level of ambition within our club and it will take significant change after Wenger's gone to alter that. Long story short, I still maintain that on current trajectory, United will win the league before us.

United are very rich but with an owner who's been sucking money out of them since the day he joined there is only so long they'll keep being allowed to throw money at the problem. This summers spending was a desperate attempt to get back into the CL. If they miss out again who knows what will happen.

More than likely we won't, still, more fun were Chelsea to fall back to the pack.
Don't get that "waaaaa let Chelsea keep winning cos they've won the league already" feeling at all.

Rather they lose to some no-hopers like Leicester or Burnley like they did last season (to Stoke, I think it was) rather than Liverpool.
