I think Dules has it right; a tired Zuniga desperate to win the ball back goes in really, really clumsily. A knee to the back happens quite often and I can think of at least 3 instances where Giroud suffered the same fate last season in the PL. The consequence here was very unfortunate, but I still don't think he had the intention of planting his knee there.
