Heh. I think Zlatan is as big an asshole as can possibly be, but Zlatan and Neymar are easily the two players I enjoy watching the most. Zlatan is more complete as a player though. Messi and Ronaldo are more effective, but that's it.

I read a paper a while back that claimed something similar about football managers. That their influence is more about superficial characteristics such as having good hair/looks, charisma. I'm not sure how the work dealt with separating confounding factors e.g. If a manager starts with a big reputation from a good playing career, or momentum etc.

I think there's something in all this. It's also not something you can prove or disprove with examples. Especially not Rosicky - he's brilliant.

I think that might be true about managers, Patters—I remember that article anyway.

Of course then a manager's genius would lie in his ability to exploit his profile, something Wenger's very good at. He almost never "breaks character".

Agreed. His constant diving and not getting booked makes defenders scared to go near him in the box, which I'm sure is the intended strategy. Saying he shouldn't do it after the match makes him a first rate cnut.
