Its funny how peoples opinions of Debuchy have changed since he was linked with us first. The more likely the signing became the more people decided he was actually good. Now that its almost certain we'll sign him he's as good as Sagna
Mathieu Debuchy (Latest: Reports of medical)
Not sure many opinions have changed. Just that those who spoke up early were ones that hated this idea.
I don't really have an opinion on his ability, but in any case, as with all new signings he starts with a clean slate. Hoping that he's a reliable player.
He (Debuchy) isn't great but Sagna is heavily overrated on this board and elsewhere by Arsenal fans. Probably due to his renaissance of sorts this year, but he was pretty average/mediocre the previous two seasons (I recognize injuries may have played a significant role in this).
Debuchy may well be the better player going forward if Sagna declines, which in my mind is probable.
At 29 its likely Debuchy will only decline as well.

Sagna was a beast about 4 or 5 seasons ago, but the player we have just lost is no better than current Debuchy. Hope this gets done soon, and we can be over Sagna's money-grabbing ass. We've never been closer to competing. He went for money and nothing but money. At least guys like van Persie and Fabregas can legitimately say we were very far from competing when they left. I can't hate on a man for chasing the dough, but he shouldn't tell us crap
Its a wonder City didn't just go after Debuchy.
Great point.

Sagna can play CB and is cheaper.
Loving the "latest" thing in the thread titles btw, kudos to the mod who's doing it!

Sagna is miles better!
It's great that everyone is optimistic about this signing but seriously, why underplay Sagna's contribution to make this signing feel better. Sagna was very good even last season.

Miles better is definitely a stretch. Sagna may edge it, but Debuchy has started over Sagna for the better part of the last two years for France. That would suggest they are at least at about the same level.

"Hmm, two evenly matched defenders... let's go after the guy who is under contract and will require us to negotiate with Pardew and Ashley".
Try another one

You know there are some who says Sagna is world class and best RB in the league?
Totally agree with you, especially the last 2-3 seasons he is really not very good. He was constantly our worst player in almost every match for the 2nd half of 2012 2013.
That is so ridiculously off the mark.

Sagna went downhill off the rails from southampton onwards in 2012-2013. I barely remember him getting back from a foray up the pitch, everything was labored.

Go rewatch the season, he was so bad it was unreal. At fault for alot of goals conceded. That penalty conceded takes the cake.
There were a select few who maintained he was top class throughout that season and pretended nothing happened when he clearly wasn't.
I remember Ricky1985 picking me up on my moaning about Sagna.
He's very mechanical. We spend long periods of games camped in the opponents half. We need a better offensive fullback

Yeah, there is obviously no operating level between being top class throughout and being consistently the worst Arsenal player on the pitch.
