"World class" is often defined as "top two XIs in the world" ... I guess?

Anyway he's a great player but he's not going to win us matches off his own boot or anything. Scepticism about a £130k/w paycheque seems justified when you consider the rest of the squad, as opposed to what he may be able to command at some petroclub.

Thats certainly true if you go by the players FIFA14 ratings. In practice however I can't remember many times Flamini was our worst player in a game.

Not really, it's obvious that people who don't see what Flamini brings to the team have never actually played competitive football.

Problem is that he's just not a DM. Flamini is better as a B2B midfielder where his best qualities, engine and movement, can be put to use. Otherwise, he's second best to everything in the defensive zone and is constantly chasing shadows. Reacting to the play and failing to affect it, as opposed to dominating it. His tackle and interception average is very poor for a player whose role in the team is purely defensive.

Don't think Shinda is saying that Schneiderlin is world class. But I don't think Khedira is world class as well. Vidal is world class. A peak Schweinteinger is world class. Modric is world class.

I think its much of a muchness. Kheidra is more proven but he's also got injury problems. Schneiderlin is more the style of player but maybe less talented (maybe, a lot to prove) and has PL experience.

Both will improve our midfield a lot so I'm not going to cry over getting one instead of the other. In fact come deadline day I can imagine people will be willing to sell their granny to sign whichever one they like less right now.

Spot on. We need a first team quality reinforcement in that position—and if we don't have a signing in late August, we'll be ready to take whoever we can get.

Last season we picked up Flamini on a free under similar circumstances and within a month most people were happy with it.

Point is taken and well received.

With the Chambers signing apparently on the cards, I'm more worried if we'll reinforce at all in midfield.

At £25m or so Schneiderlin would be a pretty unusual "fallback position" …

Fair enough but I'd have disagree with your opinion that Kheidra would be a far better signing for us given our needs and his injury problems and Schneiderlins proven PL player.

Signing Khedira would be more than just about his quality on the pitch.

A big name player, who's just won everything there is to win - would be a massive boost for the team.
