Going to America to have a boy? ?
QI (the quite interesting thread.)
I don't know if it's true but he's under the impression he can access places that will let them choose the sex of the baby through artificial selection.
Through Ivf I suppose. Never knew people visited other countries for sex selection. First world continues to stump me.
Yea, that CRISPR thing. Can't even wrap my head around it. It has endless possibilities in either direction.
That is quite interesting.
Thanks for that!
"The Event" Sounds like rich folks listen to Joe Rogan type of podcasts too
Thats what happens when billionaires binge on Black Mirror.
That's about three quarters of the US population.
We can finally start to understand if Interstellar got it right...
Distinctly underwhelming photo.
It was wasn't it. I suppose it's tricky to photograph something that traps light.
Tough crowd. I thought it was cool.
looks like a.. black.. hole.
The awe shouldn't be in the picture, but the accomplishment.....if you want something more beautiful go look at (fake) illustrations of black holes. This picture is a testament to new thinking, capabilities, and further support of our understanding of physics.
Still. ..just a black hole.

Yep. It's cool to see a black hole and all but the achievement lies in getting a picture of something that is not only by definition pretty much undetectable through principles of photography but also surrounded by the brightest regions in the whole universe.

Can't you put "just" in front of everything and say that?
Just kidding mate. It's ultra cool.
As interesting science photos go, this was cooler.
This is also quite interesting, with the world divided into a virtual grid of 57 trillion 3sqm grids, with each of the grids being assigned a 3 word identifier. Very clever really, because we have so many words that we can assign in different ways, with words being much easier to remember than numbers.
Yeah. I think this app I will be a game changer for e-commerce in emerging markets. Clearly useful for search and rescue as well. Genius app.
I may be missing something, but wouldn't it be easier to just share your location?

It's helpful for pinpointing locations that might not always be easy to find. Basically it labels every 3x3m square with a unique 3 word address. And you use this to locate it. Sometimes addresses get mistranslated in regular GPS. So, for example, I have massive issues with Uber/Uber Eats because Google Maps has mislabelled my street and I can't fix this through either Uber or Google. W3W would fix this.
Would also just be easy for finding specific locations in crowded markets, tourist spots (e.g., meeting someone at a concert or a town square, etc.). The e-commerce point is because in a lot of Africa streets don't have names and street numbers, so this would better. GPS will just get you lost.
Thanks. Didn't think of the problems some places have with GPS, so that makes sense.

Comes from my field, has been around for 7 years, hasn't changed anything much. Cool story about its use though.
