There were actually a decent amount of Newcastle fans at the stadium, possibly many of them had travelled here and made a holiday out of it. Two guys on MH17 had been on their way here for it too. One of them had only missed one Newcastle game since 1973 apparently, including all tours and friendlies. So there was a minute's silence, a wreath on their seats and applause at the minute matching their age etc.
Away from the games it sounds like they were a bit better than West Ham. Their open training was away from the CBD so I couldn't get there to see but have heard from someone that Pardew chatted to fans for a long time and they all stopped to sign autographs and all that before leaving. When I went to see West Ham's training only Fat Sam and a handful of players bothered to stick around to do that.
Am also hearing that West Ham treated the whole tour as a boozy holiday so that may explain why they were so terrible in the 2 games. Take with a grain of salt but apparently Allardyce was in some bar on Friday night drunk and ranting about what a bunch of c**ts the West Ham board are.
