Even after the injuries he suffered he was among the best strikers in the world during his time at R.Madrid. Most top quality strikers would probably call it a day after what he went through but despite all that he was still top class. Absolute privilege to have watched him during his prime, better than Messi/C.Ronaldo for me

Don't know how much you guys now about the mighty Romanian footbal league. But here we have a thing going...we have an average of 1(or probably even higher) manager sacked per week. But this week something special happend. Brazil Ze Maria been sacked twice this week by the same club! Was fired as manager of Ceahlaul on Weds, reinstated next day & gone again Saturday.

So Italy have 3 clubs in european semis.

Another year like this and according to the seedings we will lose one UCL place to them.

Yup. The top four English teams are doing enough, but the EL clubs quite frankly suck. They lack the consistency to compete in the EL like Sevilla do in Spain. Everton have a good season, but the next season when it's their turn, they can't keep it up.

It seems pretty clear that English clubs mostly see the EL as a nuisance more than anything else. A bit weird when the winner gets a CL spot, and it seems more realistic that clubs like Tottenham and Everton can get into the CL that way than them getting into the domestic top 4.

Don't believe Everton saw it as a nuisance. They're a midtable team, it's not like they've got anything better to do.

Spurs and Everton clearly didn't see it as nuisance though. They wanted to win to get into UCL.

The clubs in UEL have been taking the competition more seriously ever since the change in rules.

People are just underrating the amount of quality in Serie A like usual. It's an imbalanced league without much pulling power when it comes to big transfers, most of the teams are (financially) poor, there's only one top club nowadays, etc, but it has gotten the talent production right and the tactical level is the best in the world. They have three clubs in European semis this year because they are good. No other reason.

Now, people can argue that if we had only beaten Monaco... but the fact of the matter is that we didn't. We played a disgusting game against them where we just rolled over instead. You know who did beat Monaco? Juventus.

And they have little to no clubs in the quarters or semis for the past few years...

I think you can say that they have the youth production right maybe a decade ago, but the quality is dropping. Their u21s don't even perform well and have no outstanding talents.

Juve was pretty lucky not to lose in the 2nd leg, created absolutely nothing if you watched the game.

Most of the outstanding talents have already had a run in the a team. Verratti, El Shaarawy, De Sciglio, Perin... all of them are 21-22 now and debuted around the ages of 19-20. It's not a single good generation coming through at once because they keep developing these players all the time.

Italians don't put much stock in U21 football, or even the national team at large though. They're a bit weird like that. The country only starts to care when the azzuri reaches a quarter or a semi in the Euros or the World cup. It's always the club first.

I don't agree with the assertion that English teams don't try hard in the Europa. I just don't think they are good enough technically.

Italian team in closing down a tie shocker. They didn't need to create anything because they had already won the first leg. They just needed to avoid losing.

I'd give you Verratti and a few other up and coming keepers. The rest is still hit and miss. But the trend with Italian players is that they are pretty late bloomers for some reason or another.

I think Italian football as a whole is still not on the same level as the elite obviously, but is better than people give them credit for. Their teams from 2nd to 6th will give teams like Spurs and Saints a good game but ultimately when it comes to the bigger club they always flatter to deceive. Let's see how Juve does against Madrid first. I have a feeling they might be outclassed again. Juve really rode their luck against Monaco. On another day, Chiellini would be sent off and they concede 2 penalties. Someone like Bayern would have destroyed Monaco instead.

Speaking of Juve, they're going to bank 75m euros from the CL apparently.
