I think Klopp's lost the will. It's been drained out of him by the constant haemorrhaging of talent.

I like Klopp and think he is a good manager but he can't be absolved of all blame for Dortmund's situation. It's not easy as a manager to be consistent. He may have lost a lot of talent but the money from those sales has been reinvested. They have had serious injury issues but again while we blame our setup for the injuries our players suffer, it is unfair to blame bad luck for Dortmund's problems.

The Bundesliga is a far easier League than the Premiership and Dortmund shouldn't be at the rock bottom of the table. Klopp may move on yet and reinvent himself but he will have to prove it all again.

I dont buy the constant haemorrhaging argument.
They lost just two key players in last 2 seasons, Gotze and Lewnadowski. Sahin and Kagawa left but came back after things did not work out at their new clubs.

Klopp spent a significant amount of money to replace the outgoing players. Barring Socratis, all of their big money signings have been extremely underwhelming on the pitch.

Other issue with Klopp is the absense of a plan B when things do not work.

Biggest flop has been Mkhitaryan if you ask me. The most expensive of the bunch and has been shit whenever I have seen him.

His agent Raiola has already started the talk regarding him needing a move to a bigger club in summer. I wonder who would actually go for him.

Problem for clubs like Dortmund is that you're rarely able to afford players who suit your tactics and are also good enough In terms of ability. Without a terrific scouting system a decline was inevitable.

I wonder how many still think he was right to let Lewandowski go on a free rather than selling a year earlier for 30 odd million?

Man Utd seem to have done a number on Kagawa! I agree with the other two, I don't think Mkhitaryan has done that well either at Dortmund. Spend a fair bit of money on those players as well. So their transfer policy in recent years needs looking at. Not like good players haven't been available in their kind of price bracket either.

I remember reading they changed their fitness coach, ever since they've had an injury list to rival or even better ours!

Right now I don't think it is a tactical or personnel issue, the confidence of the players is probably rock bottom and it might just take a jammy 1-0 win to turn things around for them. You can sense that the whole team is lacking belief. The manager will have to try harder to motivate them but it hasn't helped morale that their best players are being taken every season. This summer Reus is 100% off and there is a big question mark of Hummels.

Don't Dortmund have a technical director? Not sure that Klopp has much say in transfers.

Could be a big clearout at Dortmund in the summer, even if they don't get relegated they almost certainly will be without european football. Reus, Hummels, Gundogan, Schmelzer, Mkhitaryan, Bender etc could all look to leave. Despite their struggles this season you'd imagine most of their best players will still be wanted by some of Europe's bigger clubs.

Tempted to stick a quid on them to win the CL this season though. Could do a Wigan!

So many derbies tomorrow! North London derby (Tottenham v. Arsenal), the Madrid derby (Atlético Madrid v. Real Madrid), the Merseyside derby (Everton v. Liverpool), Juventus v. Milan, and Sporting CP v. SL Benfica.

Nail on head. Something to consider about our past, as well.

Don't think money would have been an issue. No top player would sign for Dortmund. Same situation Liverpool and Spurs face. They have all the money, but can't attract the top players. It's a miracle that we were able to sign Ozil and Sanchez with 1 trophy in 10 years.

Not a miracle. Just basic geography innit. And we've got more money than Liverpool and Tottenham. And we're always in the champions league knockout stages. And we've got a manager with a fantastic reputation in Europe whereas Ozil and Sanchez didn't know who Rodgers and Pochettino were 2 years ago. But mostly the geography thing.

Understand otf's point but in comparable situations, Id rather we would've kept van Persie and take the hit of £24m when he left the year after. Would've had a decent chance of winning that title with him winning every other game on his own. Perhaps Dortmund felt that could've achieved a lot by keeping Lewandowski for an extra year. Maybe it wasn't completely their choice either.

We mostly managed to sign Özil and Alexis because we offered top wages and we are in the CL every year.

But if Lewandoski was that good and helped them so much they suffer without him now, letting him go a year earlier would be even more catastrophic.

Anyway, the point is, they still have plenty of cash in their bank, they bought loads of players this season. The problems lies elsewhere.

They may not be facing bankruptcy any more but I recall reading they have a smaller budget than QPR. 30m is a lot to Dortmund.

We can attract the best players for various reasons, players look at potential for success as much as success itself when choosing a club. Dortmund were CL finalists, CL regulars, Bundesliga winners etc, they got enough about them to attract Giroud level players and younger stars. A lack of finance is their main restriction.

They have the 11th most revenue of 2014 in the world. Money is not a problem for them, not for someone who just spent close to 70m net on new players this season.
