Took Barca and Bayern very far didn't it?
If you are a big team you play like one. Deserving football winners > lucky football winners anytime of the week for me.
That's not to begrudge WSW of the victory. They are a new club and did superbly. They did not have resources like Al Hilal, which is why they played defensively.
I'd agree with that last part. We certainly aren't the best team in Asia but we won the trophy by luck, a great team spirit and a clear plan to deal with each opponent.
It's compelling to note that Al Hilal's main moans are about the penalties not given. They failed to score in open play. They went close and had much more of the ball and chances compared to the Wanderers, but they lacked the big game composure to make the most of those chances. That was different to FC Seoul in the semi. The Wanderers scored 2 goals in that tie and had some more chances. The Koreans dominated possession but barely made a chance.
I still can't believe we are Champions of Asia.Â
I loved Tony Popovic after the game - "Yesterday we were described as a small team. Today we are champions of Asia. That is the reality."
Next up is Cruz Azul of Mexico in the CLub World Cup. We may get hammered; we may not. All good fun.
Only downside is the FFA scheduling the Wanderers next game on Friday night in New Zealand. No rest for the winners.
Finally, here is Ante's save again - ACL - Ante Covic Legend -Â
