Allegri has his type. We've discussed this plenty in the other sections of the rorum, but it's what keeps him from being a great in my opinion. He's a good manager but he'll always go for physical superiority if given a direct choice. This is the guy who flogged Andrea Pirlo from Milan to make room for Antonio Nocerino.
After the Bayern game he admitted to subbing off Morata for Mandzukic because he wanted someone to hold the ball up better, but without Morata constantly making his runs and challenging for every scrap ball there was no presence at all up front and Bayern could move forward without risk. He basically gave away the game. It wasn't Pep being brilliant as much as it was Allegri being predictable.
It's the same reason Morata has mainly been benched or used out of position this season. Unless he adds 10 kg of muscles he's not going to be favoured next to a smaller guy like Dybala in an Allegri team. He'll go for the more physical player who works tirelessly in the defence instead.
