Chile were unrecognisable. Most players looked heat-struck after 15 minutes so I'm mostly attributing it to that. We were just so imprecise with our passing.

Same thing happened to us at the Copa América 2007... it's a curse that we have such a different climate than the rest of the continent. 20C degree difference is no small thing in such a short period of time.

Hopefully we'll be more acclimatised a couple of weeks from now when we play the Netherlands.

Great goals by Holland but the Dutch tend to peak too early in tournaments (see Euro 2008 as a prime example) so wouldn't get too carried away just yet.

Great games today. Unbelievable result for the Dutch and really enjoyable to see Spain get battered. Just a shame it had to be Robben and that other cunt doing it. Pity they couldn't have both lost 5-1. Puts Spain in real trouble now as they'll have to win both the next 2 and will still probably end up against Brazil in the 2nd round.

Chile-Australia was a really good game too, possibly the best of the tournament so far. I had put $1 on Chile to win 5-0 @ 50.00 and thought it was going to be more than that when they were 2-0 up so early but great credit to Australia. Came back really well and could have snatched a point. Really good from Cahill up top, think he went to MLS way too early. Could still be doing a good job for Everton. Bet Australia wouldn't have thought they would be ahead of Spain in the group after the first game!

What a start to this tournament!

Bit harsh when he chose the country he was born in, grew up and learned to play football in. Not quite the same as someone like Costa.

You realise that he was born in Sweden and grew up in Sweden? He probably never spent any significant amount of time in Bosnia or Croatia during his formative years.
