I have generally been against this, but i have slowly started to change my mind. Depends if he has matured enough? Is his body ready for PL now? If yes/yes then i wouldnt mind.

He's not good enough.

Think he would be a terrific signing personally. We don't have anyone like him in the squad. He looks like he might finally take that last step too.

He's 25 now 😆

Big fan, always have been. Get him in.

I knew we had that buy back clause, but never really thought anything would happen due to Vela never, ever wanting to come back. If he is open to it, then it would be a terrific signing. At €3.5m it would be an absolute steal.

I have said throughout this season that he looks like Aguero-lite, and he really does. I have seen him hold his own as a striker against Ramos/Pepe and Mascherano/Pique for instance, and those are all very physical defenders. He doesn't shirk away from physicality any longer, he creates for himself, he creates for team mates, and is a good finisher. He is good as a forward, preferably with a partner, and he is a good right wing forward.

Vela back would be that wide player who offers a legit goal threat/back up striker we certainly need. Would be one position sorted in a summer where there are lots of holes to plug in this squad. If Wenger doesn't think that Vela is the top class striker we desperately need, then I would be all for this.

Sign him up!

tbh for that price its a no brainer. he used to be a lightweight powder puff, but he's developed quite well in recent years. bring him in along with a quality striker that can lead the line, and i think our front line is sorted

As long as Wenger doesn't think Vela is the answer to our striker issues though! That fear is always close at hand for me.

If nothing else, we should take him back for that ridiculously low buy-back price and sell him ourselves if he once again doesn't work out here. He is easily a £15m player today.

Rex you are spot on with your Agüero comparison. Vela is the closest thing to him in football; they're remarkably similar in their style of play.

Interesting that he no longer rules out returning. It does make sense, given he's a mature player now and presumably no longer forgets his passport when travelling.

These buyback clauses: if he plans to move to another club for 15m, say, can we instead pick him up for 3.5m and sell him on to his destination for 12m, so that everyone wins except Sociedad?

I'm assuming there's some sort of protection against chicanery like that.

Bring him back. For that price there's no reason not to.

It's not as simple as being a low fee. He'll be able to demand a huge sign-on fee knowing the fee is peanuts.

Even with a sign-on fee of lets say £3m it'd still be cheaper than signing a player of similar quality and potential in his position. He came across as a bit of a softie when he was here but his talent was never in question and judging on his performances in Real Sociedad he's about to realize that potential. He's like the polar opposite of Giroud: Quick, good first touch, can go past his man and he's a great calm finisher. We should definitely take advantage of the more than favorable buy-back clause we inserted.

Loved him since day 1. Ridiculous natural ability. Bring him back.

Haven't seen much of him since he left but his attitude and fitness levels needs to change completely if Wenger was to consider it.

Should buy him back then move him for a nice 10 mil profit. Business opportunity for Ivan and Arsene there.

He won't come here unless we guarantee him a starting place - is he better than Podolski in the same position?

If we get him it should be to play as a striker, able to occasionally fill at RW.
