Newspapers now become either click bait or parrot for twitter accounts, fake agents amassing large followings, people making up quotes by Chilean tv presenters, instagram pictures becoming borderline illuminati cryptic messages. It's so ridiculous now it's actually kinda fun.

I expected this outcome, it's just a shame we'll never find out how close we actually got to signing Benzema. Did we reach out to Real, did we put in a bid, did the mythical Wenger-Benzema phonecalls actually happen? This is certainly one of the weirder transfer sagas, a hard one to wrap your head around.

We probably didn't even contact them ever since they said no in June. Something like this.

No one credible was saying about this deal at all, nor was it ever reported to be close.
