Worth a watch. She doesn’t seem to have any understanding as to how the queue works. Clear as mud.

Interestingly, I tried to get tickets for Roland Garros this morning and the window was opening at 10am.

I logged on at 9.30 and it said you I would be randomly placed in the queue at 10 am (didn't matter if you logged on two hours or two minutes before 10).
At 10 exactly, I got assigned a number (133,000 or something)
Every minute, it would refresh and give you your current number (it always went down)
After a couple hours, my turn came and most tickets were gone, but there was some availability yet.

Most importantly, it seemed a good system in that it was pretty transparent and once you were on the queue, you were constantly updated as to where you stood. Seemed like a good system, and fairer for those who can't log in too early or keep refreshing, and then right off the bat a the time you know where you stand and it doesn't really change.

Whenever demand will significantly outstrip supply, this seems like a good system. There could also be something that if you did get tickets recently you can't get them for a few games or something. Anyway, thought it was interesting.

Sounds like that’s the “waiting room” system then which the club are exploring, which is mentioned by Amy.

Ultimately, it sounds like the club are considering using a ballot system. Frustrating for those who’ve been loyal all these years, but probably the fairest route to go if demand continues.

Claudius That’s just those available on the ticket exchange, which is open to red and silver members (so 200,000+ members) after the sale. But I couldn’t quite believe that number either, no wonder they’re instantly snapped up.

300 people logged on per ticket would be a good explanation for not getting tickets, not for the system not working. It's not like they're surprised by the number each week.

It would be a good explanation for the ticketing system not working. They didn’t build the system for these surges. Is it excusable, no? They should let the lucky few in, let them buy their tickets and tell everybody else to fuck off (but nicely, of course)

This is where the gripe lies imo. I think everyone can understand that the demand far outweighs the supply. Its the lack of transparency about the process that is infuriating. There are constantly contradictory statements from AST, club reps etc.

For instance, when the red members sale opened on yesterday for Chelsea, I used different devices and different browsers following all the different instructions out there. I had 16 different sessions open across four different devices. Joined the first two queues at 9:00 and then two new queues every 5 mins until 9:30.

Got nothing from any queue. The only one that had an ETA - 10:27 a.m., was the one I joined at 9:00 a.m.

And all the other ETAs were 10 mins apart from the last one. The one I joined at 9:30 a.m. didn't even have an ETA.

So I don't buy this whole "new queue starts at 9:30" rubbish. If there's a ballot fair enough - no complaints. But if so, communicate it.

It can start both before and after 9:30 😆

She made it very clear this is a manual process too, so there is no reason for the variation other than sloppiness.

It’s also still not clear to me what the consequence is of joining the pre-queue. She seemed to suggest that it’s because browsers will time out (clearly BS because it used to work before). So it seems like they have no idea.

Also, maybe something worth trying - create a network so that if anyone you know in the queue is lucky enough to get in they can buy a ticket and reassign it to your membership. I think the maximum one member can buy is four tickets.

Was hoping it would clear some of the issues up regarding the queue. Only muddied the waters even further, as it’s clearly not what people are experiencing.

I do empathise with the club to some extent because of the insane demand increase but an institution of our size should be able to tackle this in a more structured manner.

Anyway, hope the summer gives them plenty of time to iron out the process.

As an "enterprise" programmer, this sounds like a pretty ordinary case of Arsenal mistakenly inventing its own solution to a problem more difficult than has been fully understood.

In these situations the organisation either doubles down and overinvests in its own uniquely shit way of doing things until it half works, or it scraps its resources and goes to the market. It should be the latter in this case.
