You will be able to find people who don't want to fully lose their ST and will sell it to you but you have to then remember you will be pretty much loaning it at that point and when they decide they want it back (say if the team is performing better) then you will be back in the same spot. Plus that iz if the person is a trustworthy person. He could easily claim the ticket lost at some point in the season after you paid the money for the ST and get a replacement to his house with your ticket invalid.
Best to go through the waiting list I think. I was in thr opposite position in 2011 I think when I was finally called to take up a ST and after waiting 8 years was excited but did not have the money to commit. Wanted to sell it for a year or so but did not get any interest (we were shit tbh) and I ended up losing it.

Do both. Go on the list cos its not very expensive and get a loaner in the mean time.
Thanks lads, I'll sign up to the waiting list this weekend I think and I'll look for a loaner this summer. 11 years is way longer than I expected though, I thought it would be closer to like 5, it's unlikely that I'll still be in London then! I really should have signed up years ago just to get my name on the list.
Apparently you can get platinum level if you pay a 25% deposit a year in advance. I might look into that depending on finances in 2 or 3 years time.
