No, I just don't think he looks good on youtube. He looks like a winger who can't hack it on the wing. I haven't seen him anywhere else so I really can't comment. I'm interested to hear why you think he's a "strong athletic quick tackling defender with a great leap" who "can dribble a few more yards than Sagna" though, because those compilations show anything but. You watch Toulouse regularly I take it?

I don't watch that team so I am basing my idea solely on what I saw on youtube. I am all for us buying him but I am not sure if he can be the first choice straight away like the way Sagna integrated into the team when he came here. If he can be the backup, I am all for it.

He had no compilations at that time, hardly anyone knew who he was except that he was voted the best RB in ligue 1. Most people thought he was redundant because Eboue was a clear first choice. Oh well 😆

I remember the old thread on AM, people were saying it was a complete waste of money cos Eboue was so good 😆

I'd rather have Aurier here then any of the other Rb prospectes touted around. Guy looks like a complete player when I have seen his games and is missing a few crucial defensive bits of nouse that will develop when he is playing with talents like Mertesacker and Koscileny instead of guys like Zebina and Spajic.

It's only fitting that we should sign the new best RB in Ligue 1! 🙂

I've personally watched only about 5 or so Toulouse matches this season, but Aurier never particularly stood out. Then again, he's 'only' a RB and has received good reviews this season. Much like with Sagna, there's just not a lot of buzz about him, and I guess we'll see what level he's at should we actually do sign him.

I don't watch Toulouse regularly, no, but I've followed Aurier's career specifically with some passing interest since he was at Lens and I've seen him grow into what appears to be a a powerful, dedicated defender. His aerial ability has always stood out to me, even when he was younger, and he is a well-built kid who can sprint when he needs to. He's not exactly Mr. Fahrenheit in terms of pace but he's got all the tools to be a solid RB and he'd be an upgrade on Sagna going forward as he actually can take on his man if required.

My concern is if he can integrate himself into a disciplined back line as opposed to the unorthodox free role he has now. He dribbles into the center now more than he used to, and with us he'd be restricted to a more overlapping role. Coordination with the CMs regarding when to press and when to drop off is something our fullbacks already have trouble with so I don't think Aurier would be a downgrade in that regard.

Mertesacker would be the perfect person to go through that process with imo, and when you look at who is actually out there when it comes to RBs I think he's worth a punt if we can't get someone like Coleman or Lichtsteiner. Who else is there? Jung, Rafael, Piszczek...Mallo? I guess we could just play Milner there...

These stupid YouTube compilations all show him at the wrong end of the pitch, and even still he looks handy to me. Very useful on the break and can pick the right pass out of defense at least every once in a while.

Aurier was voted 3rd best player in France behind James Rodriguez and Zlatan.

Good enough?

All for this, hard to tell what he is like defensively but physically/technically looks good enough..
Still young as well so has room for improvement.

On twitter someone said he won young player or the year as well, must be doing alright then!

Highlight videos tend to focus on the attacking skills of the player so those clips are not too enlightening. I like the fact that he is a threat infield as that was Sagna's only weakness. I also don't have to explain why not being as good as Sagna, defensively, is not a criticism.

Ofcourse! If Sagna is off, then this is the guy to get 100%.

Wow! That's very impressive for a young right back at a mid-table club.

hes from the lens academy, came along with varane..i read somewhere he was even rated higher when they were young

You might say he's the Eisfeld to Varane's Gotze.

So much, much better.

He looks good. Lot to be said for tremendous pace and power these days

Pace and power is necessary, but is this guy really that quick?

He isn't, from what I can tell.
