Apart from being short a great central defender and central midfielder, United's most telling weakness at the moment is that they are devoid of confidence when they are playing at OT.
They've lost their arrogance and swagger, it went with Fergie and the remaining remnants of Fergie's old guard players.
I still haven't got a feel for whether or not Van Gaal's the man to restore that indestructible confidence that they used to have.

Average goalkeeper, inexperienced and individually poor defence, dodgy new system that most of the players have never played before and is notoriously hard to play in this League, lacking the right players to play at wingback in that system, lacking quality players generally, struggling to attract quality players because they're not in the Champions League........They're just not very good, but only having the League to focus on means they'll do alright once they get a bit more settled.

Mata isn't a midfielder. Anyway, I forgot that they only play with two CMs, not three. So if they buy Di Maria they must choose whether to play him at wingback, bench Herrera og play him and Herrera together. If that isn't too attacking, it will be brilliant. If it is, they really shouldn't have bought Herrera.

Edit: I take back that their defense is their only weakness, by the way. Their right wingback isn't good enough no matter who they play there, and they could use a DM as Carrick is aging.

Di Maria won't work as a central midfielder if there are no wingers in the team anyway. His success last season had a lot to do with Ronaldo and Bale cutting the opposition to pieces.

Basically United should have fucked Rooney off when they had the chance. Instead they made him the best paid player in England. The only solution now is to put him on the flank to balance the team right, but it appears that van Gaal doesn't like width.

Pace is one thing Di Maria would help with. Don't think they'll get him though, think PSG will get their man in the end and not sure he'd want to go to United regardless, in all honesty. Not worried about him going there at all. I actually hope they pay £50m or whatever it is for him and by some miracle he wants to go to that shit hole.

Le Tissier said on Soccer Saturday that City could do with signing another "world class striker" for squad depth.

Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic, Negredo is not enough - given our depth on that front I was quite amused by his comment

They were a shambles at the back last week. There is no way they can successfully add another attacking midfielder without dropping a major player. If they sign DiMaria it'll just be to appease the crowd. He's quality but so far from what they need.

Doubt whether the 3-5-2 is going to survive, needs too many specialists. Van Gaal chucked it at half time vs Swansea didn't he?

I'd much much rather United fail to buy anyone more. Money is nothing to them.

I can't give a shit about the transfer fees United or any other club pay. Just the players we will have to face.

It seems like Di Maria to Utd is more or less done. Sky are saying they want to sign 2 other players as well (Khedira?)

Crucial that we get another defensive and attacking signing, or we'll be struggling for 4th again.

Well you see the way money works is that if you don't spend it on one thing you can use it on another different thing or many different things.

Sky reporting fee as 48m pounds

He's obviously a class player and one that I've wanted.

We do our end of the action though with a top DM, striker and reasonable priced CB and we'll be good to go though
