I've fancied that one to happen since Vidic said he's leaving actually. Even moreso now van Gaal's there. Vermaelen only has a year left on his contract and I reckon we could see it as an opportunity to avoid losing him for free next summer. Ain't no way he's signing a new contract.

I could live with selling them another player, another captain no less! There's a chance it might reinvigorate him and then they'd be getting a good player, but if I'm honest I was wrong all along on Thomas; he was never that good a defender. Koscielny's a couple of levels above even Vermaelen's best. I'm hoping that sort of level is about the maximum United are able to recruit this summer. The likes of Alex Song, Kevin Strootman etc.

There were some rumours a while back him along with a few of the African boys were known to be trouble makers in the dressing room which is why we didn't hesitate to get rid of all them

Even so he shouldn't be sold on the cheap. Not a lot of good CBs on the market and I do think Vermaelen has the ability to play for a top side. If we can't get a good fee and a good replacement in id rather let him go for free next summer

Not even slightly similar apart from the destination. They bid and we pretty much instantly accepted. Clearly Wenger wasn't bothered holding on to him.

That said I don't think he'd do well at Chelsea under Mourinho.

Vermaelen is average. He'd be easily replaced. Would still be annoying to see him at United. Although I can imagine there would be a lot of "agent Vermaelen" jokes when he inevitably fucks it up.
