Good episode, enjoyed the end.

So frustrating though, we've got 3 episodes left and it doesn't feel like anything has really happened this season.

The stuff with Aria and the Hound? Who gives a damn? I like both characters but their story is incredibly slow for something so dull. Stuff on the wall could be decent but at this pace there's absolutely no tension there at all. Feels like we'll only get to the climax in about 700 episodes.

this season feels like its had the best character beats of any season. that scene between tyrion and oberyn was moving

Arya is for me the most interesting character of the lot.

Aidan Gillen is ruining this, every time he opens (a tiny corner of) his mouth to speak I just feel embarrassed. The cheesy smirk, the accent, it's terrible and distracting.

arya and the hound feels like this season's theon torture storyline. runs for the whole season, they'll probably get to the vale and littlefinger/sansa will have buggered off

My second favourite storyline at the moment. I like the fact that it's moving slowly. Game of Thrones is burning through too much plot as it is. I'm grateful for the odd occasion when it actually bothers to flesh out the characters a bit. Arya has been radically transformed and set upon a much more interesting path than I ever imagined. It also serves as a feedback loop for the bigger story. Littlefinger killed Arya's aunt now. Who's left for The Hound to take her to when they find out? John Snow?

This thread has been spoilerific for weeks though Biggus, if people want to use it to discuss the ep just screened that's what it will become. Just have to stay away until you've caught up.

I haven't even seen any of this season but since I remembered the major twists quite vividly I don't think there's much to lose dipping in here occasionally.

Absolutely. It still seems like the best payoff between extended characterisation and meaningful use of time to me. The more a film relies on plot, the more it suffers from a limited format where every single details becomes significant and held up for scrutiny. There's no room for anything insignificant; every frame is used to accelerate the story or the characters. I don't think that was ever the way it was intended, and it's certainly not a great way to portray more mundane stories. The experience becomes very opaque. Television shows like Mad Men have the opposite problem though. They're so full of filling that very little becomes truly significant. I almost wish that True Detective didn't have a second season at all. Just let it be an original work of fiction. That way we might see more of them.

True Detectives finish felt rushed and too clean though. No series of AHS is yet to have a satisfactory ending. We'll see with Fargo but I've not really been sucked in yet by that.

I don't know, maybe it's the format rather than the content, but it all feels a little tedious to me. I'd rather they just cram those scenes into one or two episodes than 5 mins here and there. Same goes for a few of the other storylines such as the one at the wall.
