Massive news in Germany, he has resigned and will not be appealing his jail sentence. I think he is seen as the guy who helped get Bayern into the strong position they are in now and a massive figure at the club.

The money in question isn't anything to do with Bayern, he owns a sausage factory in Nuremberg which he has made a lot of money with but the money in question is to do with money he made on the stock exchange.

He should have hired 'Arrys lawyers.

Read yesterday that both the defence and the prosecution wanted to appeal, neither of them were happy with the sentence.

UEFA should expel Bayern and give us a bye to the quarters. 🙂

Thats the prison, its a hard knock life.

@ Jed
I realise you are joking as, i think, there were his personal(?) earnings.

Three and a half years prison for refusing to pay nearly 30 Mill in taxes is quite a good sentence for him, considering that he could get out of prison after half the sentence.

Has nothing directly to do with Bayern of course, but Hoeness IS Bayern in a way that few clubs can match. Will be interesting to see how the club fares without him.

They'll probably only serve him three meals per day.

Heh, just shows you how differently the British treat tax evasion.

I'm pretty sure if he evaded paying that amount of tax in Britain he would be jailed too.

I love the way this one panned out for Hoeneß - this guy has always been so full of himself, that he was bound to fall on his mouth at one stage. Glad that it's finally happened.

How can we expect this to hurt Bayern off (but more preferably) on the field? I must admit I don't know much about how the structure of that club works.

I don't think it will hurt them that much as it was a private matter and he resigned/was sacked as soon as he was found guilty.
It will, however, strengthen the crooks at Barca and Real as Bayern can no longer lecture them about their affairs.

You can't say that Tone!
Only evil noveau riche clubs that try to circumvent the FFP so that they can compete with their betters are crooks.

The thinking behind this hurting Bayern is of course that Hoeness has been even more influential at shaping the modern Bayern than even Wenger at Arsenal. It could well be that the set up at Bayern will cope well without him, but it is certainly going to leave a massive vacuum.

He's left them in pretty good shape though. Lots of money in the bank, self sustainable and making a lot of money every year with highly lucrative deals, new stadium debt paid off, probably best team in world football and a strong pull to bring in any other top players. What could possibly go wrong!
