Since I've nominated myself to argue this corner ... the idea being discussed doesn't hinge on the Adams-Bendtner comparison, or even on football.

Simply to reckon with the reality that people's lives are many-aspected, but our reactions tend to be simple and based on one aspect. Anyway.

Well we all have to stand somewhere Burnsy, if you know where you stand you won't fall over.
Many of us I'm sure have had personal experience with drug/alcohol abusers and of course that colours our opinions.

Good point Biggs. I do have a recovered heroin addict in my life, which has given me insight into what people go through I hadn't really had before.

Well it comes down to do you subscribe to the soft love school the tough love school or the no love school.

Tough love can be real, or it can just be a species of codependent bullying in my opinion.

It's interesting. The ex-addict I know went through all the homelessness, starvation, petty crime and property damage phases of self abuse, and his family tried both soft love and tough love on him. But he only ever got clean because he was in a car accident so serious he was in traction for months. Now he's a happy family man. Luck's a fortune.

The saddest thing is young people who if they got the help they needed at the time would've made it through those difficult late teen years.

I'm not sure that's true - you cannot help addicts until they want help and recognise that the reason that their lives are destroyed is because of their uncontrollable, complete and devastating dependency on a substance.

Teens normally have a range of people to blame before they ever take a hard look at themselves.

I agree Y, I didn't say they wanted to be helped I said it was sad that they couldn't be before they got sense.

Nobody here even knows that Bendtner is an alcoholic. He might just be an irresponsible prick who is more concerned with partying than his job. He wouldn't be the first who was like that and not an alcoholic.

If he was an alcoholic surely he'd be drunk at times other than on nights out? Adams used to turn up for training drunk. Back then you'd have probably blended in with all the binge drinking players used to do, now it'd be fairly easy for anyone at the club to spot an alcohol problem.

If I was Bendtner and had his lifestyle I'd be doing the same thing. If I didn't have to be moderately responsible for my job I'd be doing the same thing as it is.

i don't understand what he was doing to the cab exactly. he must 've been drugged out of his mind to think that the car was something he could get intimate with. most concerning.

I think the cab driver may have locked himself in for protection and Bendtner avoided breaking anything as he didn't want to be charged with criminal damage again.
