This is how to hold on to star players - ignore clauses in their contracts. It also looks like a better legal team could have won us the title. Could you ever see us pulling something like this off? :\
John W. Henry admits Liverpool ignored Luis Suarez's buy-out clause
The PFA looked at the contract and said it wasn't a strict buy out clause, and they represent Suarez not Liverpool.
Henry is just trying to make himself look good.
Same reason he tweeted that nonsense last summer.
if suarez really wanted to come, he would've signed for us, and we would've wired the money to liverpool. if liverpool refused to perform under the contract, we could've sued for specific performance and damages with CAS or whoever the appropriate governing body is. but i bet it was just a bluff - the language would've been clear on its face, and liverpool wouldn't want to incur the legal expense and then look stupid in front of everyone when they lose.
it must've not really been a buyout clause - suarez should prolly have a word with his lawyer and fire him.
Ozil and Suarez would have been nice i guess.
Liverpool have played a blinder here. Credit to them, we'd have probably gift wrapped him to the bidding club.

Sure this is it.
The only thing Liverpool ignored was the 'negotiate in good faith' part. What the clause said was widely reported, directly from the PFA no less, and it clearly wasn't a strict buy-out clause. This is just Henry swinging his dick.
I wonder if we would be hearing about this if Suarez had bitten someone again and got himself suspended, leaving Liverpool 10 points outside the top 4.
Still 10 games to go, so don't you give up on Bitey McRacist just yet...
He's not that crazy.
He has actually got a chance of winning a PL title now
I'm amazed and sickened at how Liverpool have turned into a free scoring, confident and happy outfit.
I said a while back that having two free scoring players is enough to win you a lot of games. It makes the game so much simpler when you have two or more players who just look to run towards goal for 90 mins, with and without the ball.
Walcott is quite literally the only one in our entire squad who does that for us, and even then it's to a smaller extent.
Liverpool is much weaker without Lucas Leiva imo. Brentan tries to shoehorn SSS and Coutinho into the side but I believe they were stronger when Suarez and Sturridge played as a front two. There's a reason why Suarez stopped scoring so much.
Lucas hasn't been that good since his big injury. And while they do need a better defensive mid as I've said before I think they'd lose something if they get one. Sturridge and Suarez score loads because they have Henderson and Sterling joining them in every attack with Couthinho and Gerrard getting forward and supporting them, it leaves them wide open to counters as Swansea showed. Finding the balance for them will be tricky. They'll have to accept less goals to win more games and get more consistent IMO.
