Its a very good point. I feel like we have a long enough story ahead with Willock and can take our time. Even with one net midfield addition he'd get a decent set of games. Personally for me I'd like to see him continued higher up and really embedding those triangles and quick progressions with Nelson/Saka on the centre left side. If we are going to need more of the 343 formation, Im sure Partey-Doucoure could work and there'd be less of a need for a 10? I believe you know both players much better than I do. Finally, I enjoy Peps creative flexing with Fernandinho, Gündogan, and Rodri with two axis, lone deep, and sometimes centreback. Good clubs can always have a reservoir of CMs I reckon but it might be good to have Xhaka out the picture 🙂.

I'd feel better with a playmaker at #8 to be able to influence the transition and attack in the final 3rd.
I'd like it even more if that player was also a genuine goal threat on and off the ball.

I’d also feel better. And sleep better at night with Partey in place of Xhaka. Xhaka is a level setter. You put him in your team as your pivot and you’re signaling that you’re fighting for 4th at best

Go for players that can flit between the 8 and 10 role as the game demands ala de bruyne. Guys like van de beek or szobozlai fit that profile

This would be my inclination as well. I'm surprised vd Beek has not been snapped up yet. We should be all over that.

Doucoure plays as many games at AM as he does at CM. Thats one of the reasons I think he'd do well for us.

When you put it that way we don't really need to buy that many players in order to have a team that looks good on paper. Rather Martinelli than Willian though. I'd take Ramsey back as well if it wasn't for his injury record.

I don't think adding guys like Ramsey or Willian really helps move the needle long term though. We'd probably still struggle to break the top 4 and even if we did what then? You'd be struggling again pretty soon as they aged out and we were low on resources to replace them. We need to get good players who are investments, not sunk costs.

Exactly, the final death nail in wengers coffin was when we started buying older players because the pressure here was to great to develop youth players properly. We're not gong to buy or way to the top we're going to have to build something.

ManU would ahve tons of tiltes recently if buying older slightly past it players was the way forward.

And in Willian's case it's an old player who isn't even that good.

He's beter than anything we've had on the right since freddie, (bar peak ozil when he played on the right). You could make a case for theo but he was such an unbalanced player here for so long.

We have Pepe backed up by Nelson for the right wing forward position. Its not somewhere we need to invest. If we end up with Willian we all know its not for footballing reasons.

Are you talking about peak Willian or current, soon to be 32 Willian?
